Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Josh Anderson’s Groundhog Day It may be a year later, but Anderson can expect the same type of trade deadline as he had last year, and he only has himself to blame.

Anderson can be an effective player. But he hasn't been the same since St-Louis took over.

I think the style St-Louis wants from his player is just not a good fit with Anderson.

And let's be honest, if he buried half of his grade A chances in the first few months, he'd have something like 7 more goals.

Perfect timing for a 4pt swing game tomorrow night against the 2 teams then.

Agreed.

Of course, not everyone will hope to "swing" the same way.

Anderson will end up like Allen, dealt in the end, but for a sliver of what his worth once was. Can't knock Hughes too much, his asset management overall has been excellent.

I agree with this. When St.Louis came in i knew it was going to be great for players like Caulfield who needed to develop similarily to how st.louis did. His system immediately showed it worked for him. Guys like Anderson have not been able to adjust as it is a different way to play. He should take a leaf out of Pezzettas book.

I'm not sure Anderson CAN adjust.

He's got great tools as a player, mostly speed and size with a scoring touch, but he doesn't have a good enough understanding of the game to play the way guys like Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Newhook or Slafkovsky can play.

It's tough seeing Anderson struggle like this. At this rate, we will be stuck with that contract until the bitter end. His value has NEVER been lower.

I thought he would play with Slaf and Dach this year, and maybe pot 20 goals.

That all went to hell fast.

I expect HuGo to go get another top 6 forward this summer, so now I am not sure if there is a place for him on this team / where he fits in.

I don't think he'll be that useless moving forward. I think that's a player that thrives in a competitive situation like the playoffs... which isn't what we have right now.

I'm sure teams are still seeing him as a potentially useful player. Unlike Gallagher who's just a liability out there, and god knows I appreciate Gallagher and all he's done for us over the years.

He doesn't really fit anywhere... but his future isn't on our top 6 imho.

Yes, although if he was playing at his best on a 3rd line, I wouldn't really mind.

Absolutely! There are certain allowances, for sure! Love seeing him flying out there and havin fun. He's doing neither of those things these days. Must be the longest season of his life right now.

I'm convinced if he somehow buried some of his chances to begin the year, it would be a whole different story for him. He's a known streaky player but he was playing well the first two months without getting any results.

Just needs to play the Leafs for 82 games and he'd be right behind Matthews in the Rocket race.

The league has screwed Anderson by making us play the Leafs only in October and then not again until the end of the year.

I agree. Would be a different story all-together. Maybe St. Louis would have kept him on PP1 ans incorporated him more into the system. But we will never know now.

And like French just said - too bad he can't play the Leafs 82 times a year.

Anderson, and his contract, are perfect examples of what happens when a GM falls in love with potential. Anderson has plenty of that potential, mostly unfulfilled, sadly....

Newhook seems to be in a similar way, with tons of exciting aspects to his game, but never really reaching the expectations. Colorado gave up on him, one must hope being in Montreal works out better for him over time. Jury is still out on him.....

TDL will be interesting, as moving a goalie is not the only work that might get done. Anderson would be a great addition to a club going into a playoff run, except for that term left on his contract, but maybe.... Might see a trade involving some D players, but the bottom six of the forward group is terrible, so doubt any of them get moved.

Two more years of bad contracts still......then it will get interesting.

The schedule and broadcasts have been weird. How the hell is Winterpeg/Leafs at 7pm on a Saturday not on HNIC?
