Elias Lindholm has managed just 4 shots on goal in his last 5 games.

1 assist in his last 10 games.

#Canucks  need more from him. Way, way more.

Has he played himself to a realistic chance at a 1 year Bertuzzi like deal for the Leafs?

2C for the Leafs next to Willy and JT could inflate his stats.

JT would likely be willing to let Lindholm get a good run at PP1 over him as well to help entice him.

Why would he do that though?

Because he has 13 goals?

Why is any team giving him a good long term contract?

That's what is roughly expected of him goal wise. He should be about a 20 goal scorer in the league.

I mean define "good long term". He makes 4.8 million this year. If he got 5.5 for 5 years is that not good and long term?

Because of history and NHL GM's?

He is on pace for 15 goals. He is not even close to 20 goals.

And he is expected to score more than 20.

He isn't even on pace to clear 50 points. (49)

This is a player who turned down 8M a season from CGY. He was shooting for 9m when the season started...a 1 year deal is likely what's next for him to shoot for that lucrative long term deal at 30.

No chance he accepts 5.5 for 5 years.

I just don't see any GM giving him what he wants. He wanted 9M, I do not think one year will make him believe he is not at least close to that.

Interesting game yesterday. Terrible result. Leafs were never losing in the game until the failure in the shootout. Lucky for the Leafs the shootout is not a playoff thing. Canes were very fortunate, Leafs not so much.

Pretty weak call late in the game as well.

If that is called in playoffs its a joke.

Except 75% of the season is over with 13 goals. He should get about 17 goals if he comes out of his slump. You're equating his current slump as his entire pace. 17 goals is "about 20" as I said.

In addition, GMs dont just take the last year into consideration. His agent will say it's an off year considering he scored 42 goals 2 years ago.

Using your logic, if he wants so much money why wont he take a 1 year at like 7 million somewhere? Why would he take less?

Agree, still not an excuse to not figure out how to protect a hard earned two goal lead with two minutes left on the clock.

Huh? It has been 70 games. And his slump?

His "slump" on the Canucks he has still scored at a better rate than his 49 games with CGY.

And uhhh ya duh of course. If GMs didnt then he would get like 4M after a season like he is having.

He can maybe get 1 year 6M. Regardless, he is not getting a long term deal at the number he wants.

Weak call and a pretty damn lucky tip with 6 seconds left.

Without Marner thats how I want the team to play.

But why would Lindholm do a one year deal?
He'll get more years offered. Hes just not a right fit for the canucks

Cover song of the week. Some fun facts. This is a great cover of a cover. This song was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. First released by Gladys Knight and the Pips and covered by Marvin Gaye (the classic version)

He's not likely to sign a one year deal. Teams with lots of cap space will be interested. Leafs will have other priorities IMO. With Brodie off the books, they will be looking to add d-men without over adding too much long term cap space. Re-signing Marner is also going to be a consideration.

Because he can take a 1 year, do well next year and sign long term closer to the 9M he wanted.

Makes zero sense to sign a 2 year.

It is long term or 1 year, and after a season he is projected to not even break 50 points and just get 15 goals long term won't be there.

Yeah he will totally get that 9M long term deal he wants.

Totally.

Won't have to prove anything to get it.

I Venmo'ed $2000 USD to a witch-doctor I met over Tik Tok.

She promised me that she would put a mystic red light hoodoo on Matthews.

Guaranteed to hit 75 goals!

Best money I ever spent.

Thank me later.

You continue to make over the top sacastic comments. NHL contracts for free agents are based on several factors. One is need, one is available cap space, one is expected contribution based on past and expected performance. There are other factors as well, all weighted differently by the teams looking at a particular UFA. The following teams have the cap space and requirement for a 2C - in no particular order. Seattle, Columbus, Boston, Carolina, Anaheim, San Jose, Chicago and Detroit.

Be interesting to see what stats are for leafs losing when they had a 1 or more goal lead.
