First.

Getting back to the Parekh discussion from last blog. Assuming the Hawks don't get the 1st pick, wow does KD and staff have a tough decision to make. 1st decision offense or defense? 2nd decision if offense - big C like Lindstrom or prolific scorer like Demidov or Eiserman. 2nd decision if defense - All around RD like Levshunov or offensive machine RD Parekh, or a good LD like D!ckenson. Of course if they're picking 3 or 4 the decision will be easier since a couple of the above will probably be off the board.

Looking towards the off-season I don't expect Davidson making large splashes in free agency so Stephenson Mantha debrusk on d probably bottom pairing veteran dman. One thing I think will happen is Davidson will use the cap space and draft capital to make a trade for young ready to play now who is either blocked in the system fell out of favor or part of cap dump trade. Imo

I'd start kicking the tires on Clarke and whispering to his agent how the Blackhawks have a starting position open for him to compete for.

Stitzle is 6’ 195, he is not small.
- LAHawk

Sure but he didn't have to battle anyone for the puck since he was the first one to it and skating circles around all the Blackhawks, by the way i never mentioned he was small.

I hope Nazar, Moore and other Blackhawks fit this mold. I think Moore is 195 already.

If we don't get the first pick it wouldn't really shock me if KD maybe trades back a couple of spots.

This is from the last one

Which is why I think he makes plenty of sense for the Hawks. Take a look at the top-10 teams in the league and their lead d-man in points:

1. Rangers | Fox - 63P in 63G (1.00 ppg)
2. Stars | Heiskanen - 48P in 63G (.76 ppg)
3. Hurricanes | Skjei - 42P in 74G (.57 ppg)
4. Bruins | McAvoy - 44P in 66G (.67 ppg)
5. Canucks | Hughes - 81P in 73G (1.11 ppg)
6. Avalanche | Makar - 78P in 68G (1.15 ppg)
7. Panthers | Montour - 31P in 57G (.54 ppg)
8. Jets | Morrissey - 58P in 73G (.79 ppg)
9. Oilers | Bouchard - 74P in 71G (1.04 ppg)
10. Leafs | Rielly - 51P in 65G (.78 ppg)

Now contrast that with the bottom-5 teams and their leader in d-man points:

1. San Jose | Ferraro - 19P in 65G (.29 ppg)
2. Chicago | Jones - 29P in 58G (.50 ppg)
3. Anaheim | Fowler - 32P in 72G (.44 ppg)
4. Columbus | Werenski - 46P in 61G (.75 ppg)
5. Arizona | Durzi - 36P in 67G (.54 ppg)

It's evident that you need guys to produce on the backend to be able to win. Korchinski can be a pretty darn good defense-man, but does he have the upside to be a 70+ point d-man that's required of contending teams? If the team think he's more 1B than 1A, then the team absolutely needs to prioritize an offensive d-man like Parekh.

This is kind of an interesting look.

https://smahtscouting.com...-report-kevin-korchinski/

Basically - huge raw canvas, they predicted struggles in AHL first 2 years and then if he figures out how to adjust to the NHL he could be a very effective player.

You'd think once he gets comfortable and starts attacking the zone the way he is described as in the article above then he could be a very special player. He doesn't look incompetent focusing on playing simple and making adjustments the coaching staff is asking for. And he's done well continuing to improve while also having to deal with losing a parent unexpectedly which certainly takes a mental and emotional toll.

In some cases you'd want to see a kid swing his pecker a bit but I think overall for a very young player in that type of position, understanding that he needs to learn the game then he can make an imposition (I'm assuming thats what's happening because its the only logical explanation for him not skating the puck around like a maniac) it shows a pretty good level of maturity and in a year or two maybe something more dynamic manifests itself. Also playing with Megna wtf is he realistically gonna be able to do.

He's got the right frame, the physical tools and seems like a good attitude. He just needs minutes and confidence and he's trending in the right direction.

That being said I think you draft best overall. If you have two dynamic guys on the left side dunno what you do with Jones but like myself and many others here have said they can do nothing with him and not really be impacted or you can flip one of those younger guys for a big scoring winger or whatever they need to help complete the roster.

Who they pick is irrelevant as long as that pick turns into an impactful NHL player.

I dunno about that. I think the later firsts get swapped when GM's get hot for those fliers that maybe could hit if all the stars aligned (like a Rinzel). The value for those picks on paper isn't hugely different.

I can't think of a lot of a 5-10 swap anytime recently (obviously Ottawa traded 7 for debrincat but different for established guy). I don't think the first overall has been traded since before the 04-05 lockout.

The GM's haven't quite gotten to the level of the NFL yet where they trust the paper values and are willing to deal in odds rather than gut feeling or whatever. It's also a bit different where teams are picking maybe for a certain position so that makes a deal more doable. Add in part of the problem with parity is that all these teams need value and the best way to get value is to have young players out perform their rookie or second contract which leads to a lot of overvaluing and boring drafts.

The source is kind of funny but it's a good list of others who have looked at these values (though some are dated the numbers are kinda sorta about the same).

Soderblom is tracking the thing really well. He has a chance for a decent game vs a hungry PHI club fighting for a playoff spot....... Any thoughts on Bedard moved to wing with D!ckenson playing center?

Not enough of them but that was a fun period. Lucas Rifle looks like he came to win a puck or two, club is winning pucks, the Grade A's against are hitting iron........ U of MN and Boston U are in a shootout, 4-3 still in the 2nd.

I don’t understand why the ref outside the blueline would make that call when there was a ref six feet away?

Going to go out on a limb here and say that not bringing back Tinordi and Megna should equate to anywhere from to 3-5 more wins.

And more watchable games. If the Hawks hang on they will finish March at .500, baby steps.
