Nice win, but too bad that Detroit took their foot off the gas and settled for Lyon winning it for them. Hell of a game by Lyon. And clearing the puck continually in the 3rd by flipping it to center or icing it and not being able to clear the zone by a controlled breakout is not gonna get them many wins!
Thinking Husso and Lyon will be the tandem next year if Husso ever recovers.....It doesn't inspire confidence as of right now, but if this allows Y to clear the RD position below Seider and get some decent defenders, it will go a long way to improving this team. |

Listened to the game driving to VA. Sounded like the D was functioning better today. Maatta's name called out by Kal & Woods quite often. He's not flashy, not the fastest skater, but has some pretty good instincts. Feels passing lanes, good positioning, anticipates well. A quietly good signing, does the quiet things the right way. He's not the best shut-down guy by any means, but he's reliable. Always liked watching him play.
Now, today's start was how we need to be. Would've liked to have watched it so I could watch the play off the puck, that tells you a lot about how the guys are playing; if they're moving well off the puck, we should have a good game if that makes sense. Nice to see/hear he guys shut down offensive opportunities. Lyon saved our bacon from what I heard. Heck, even had 2 fights in the 1st!!! Sounds to me like we were ready to push the game vs wait for it to evolve, we're not so good being reactive....get on the horse and ride hard. Sprong was active as well. Still no clue why we sat him out, guy's been awesome for us this season.
Good game, lads. Got a couple of hot games this week!! |

Sprong is a defensive liability. - HenryHockey
I keep forgetting we're such a defensive juggernaught! Actually played decently yesterday, not great, not horrible.....but will take the "W" at this point in the season..... |
