2) Here's where things stand: The Flyers blew their many opportunities to control their own destiny -- although one could argue that the team already did just that by not taking advantages of all the mulligans they were given before finally being overtaken in the playoff standings. Every team the Flyers are now chasing for a playoff holds a game in hand and/or a tiebreaker advantage with four of five games left to play.

It was comical how all of the teams that had the opportunity to pass the Flyers kept losing as well. WAS just needed one win to pass the Flyers in points and went something like 0-5-1 to tie them in points. That allowed longshot teams like NYI and PIT to catch up to everyone.

Didn't someone say in a prior thread that the Flyers haven't beaten a team in their own division since the calendar turned to 2024?

It's just a mess.

The real summary:

The Flyers are mathematically possible right now...until a couple teams above them win 1-2 games. Even if the Flyers win the rest of their games, they are done like Diddy.

The only way now for the Flyers to screw over the fan base more...win games that no one wants them too so they get a worse draft position.

I believe that is the case. Also the Flyers have lost 17 of the last 24 games. I wonder what happened to the culture change, the standard applied and the fixing of the locker room during that 24 game stretch?

if they miss the playoffs the excuses will plentiful.

- we exceeded expectations as many had us as a bottom 5 team

- we are rebuilding that's why we traded walker. we could have kept him blah blah to make a run. which will contradict what he said about Laughton.

- they will somehow sneak in the hart situation knowing full well they knew this was inevitable.

- will use the injuries 100%.

- heading on the right direction and other buzz words.

Fired, no. He may leave voluntarily to move upstairs. Which would be a frightening development for the Flyers.

- hello it's me 2050

What do you want the next coach to do?

A: Win as many games as possible in the current year.
B: Develop young players for the long term.
C: Distract the fanbase with antics to keep them entertained and distracted.
D: Win the Stanley cup.

Before you can decide who you want, you have to decide what you want your coach to do. Some of the choices are mutually exclusive but some aren't and to be honest, no matter who the next coach is, the construction of the team will not allow them to win a Stanley cup.

To me Torts is a combination of A and C.

The Stanley cup is not a next year or even a next coach thing at this point.

Just my 2 cents.

We’re also 4 8 and 3 since the deadline. Speaks to the lack of depth as we couldn’t survive when we lost Walker. They don’t have any realistic shot at making the playoffs even if they win out which from their recent play would be nearly impossible.

I honestly still can’t believe they got slaughtered by a cbj team missing 10
Players and having many ahl call ups. Incredible.

Not hard to figure out why they are in freefall

The pp sucks
The team is worn down and likely tuning out the overbearing, childish coach
The D is woefully thin and combined with poor goaltending it’s caused the pk to be as bad as the pp has been all year
They are weak at center and TK is struggling and possibly playing hurt.

Tied an NHL record with CBJ scoring 6 goals in 1 game by defensemen. Torts and the 2023/24 Flyers are in the record books.

I want a combination of A and B. I want to coach to try and win as many games as they can while developing young players for the future. Not try and win and put player development aside in many instances. That will potentially lead to the potential of D.

How is the culture though? The adherence to the standard? Is the room no longer fixed?

you think these players would do that at this stage knowing they were in a playoff spot and controlled their own destiny.

how do they acquire that elite talent you speak of then if they try to win as many games as possible? Are you in favor of striping the roster down and starting fresh?

These will all be the offseason buzzwords thrown out by management. They have built in excuses ready to use...

The Buzz words will be a plentiful. But a lot of these guys that have floundered will have now been under Torts for two full years. To me DB and company know and see what we all do. They simply need better players. How they go about it is anyone’s guess, but there are holes that need to be filled….a lot of holes.
