Carrying forward the comment on Artemi Panarin and the playoffs from the prior blog, I saw a few interesting things.
2015-16 with Chicago - two goals and five assists in seven games
2017-18 with Columbus - two goals and five assists in six games
2018-19 with Columbus- five goals and six assists in 10 games
2021-22 with New York - six goals and 10 assists in 20 games.
On flip side, 2016-17 - one point in four games. 2019-20 in bubble - one goal and one assist in three games. Last year, two assists in seven games.
The narrative that he doesn’t perform in the playoffs is inaccurate. If you want to say he doesn’t consistently perform or perform at the same level he does in the regular season, that’s accurate. But not that he doesn’t perform, as seen from the above.

But Jan, we exceed at hyperbole...we like to say things like "He never performs" or "they always blow it"...and ignore anything that might threaten that narrative. It's our nature.
While last nights game wasn't necessarily a trap game it was certainly clear that both teams viewed these points differently and the Rangers took too long to engage and they ran out of time in the end.

TJ - I agree on the hyperbole, which is why when I wrote the blogs, you rarely see me engage in it. Skews the truth and I don’t fall prey to narratives. He stunk last year, no if and buts about it. The prior year, great on PP, big goal versus Pitt, but was uneven and not consistent. The narrative will always be how he does in playoffs until he does it. Then, he will have to do it again. He is not the first superstar to go through that. Dave Winfield had the Mr May moniker from the 1981 Playoffs laid on him by Steinbrenner. That stuck until he went to Toronto and had a good playoff run.
Last night was EXACTLY what I was worried about. Desperate team that I ABSOLUTELY can’t stand gooning it up because they were getting DOMINATED for two periods and they didn’t like it! Luckily ( I hope ) Zibanejad and krieder are ok. Really didn’t care much who the first round opponent would be but now I really hope it’s the isles so we can totally HUMILIATE them!.

Steve...I agree wholeheartedly. As fans, we live and die with these guys because of what is written diagonally across their chest. Whoever they put on the ice, we need them to be the best they can be.

Sorry Jan but I disagree with you.
Panarin has disappeared in the playoffs up to this point in his career for the Rangers.
In 57 career games he has 46 points. At even strength he has 11g and 13a 24 total points.
For the Rangers he has 30 playoff games, at even strength he has just 3 goals and 5 assists for a total of 8 even strength points in 30 games. This is way below his regular season even strength totals average. For the Rangers 20 points in 30 playoff games and is a -10. Defensively is has been a big liability. For a player who is making 11.6 mil per. That is just not acceptable on any level.
The numbers say he isnt getting it done for the Rangers in the playoffs.

If he would have produced in the series, there wouldnt have been a need for a game 7. - Brukie
To disagree with about 2022 playoff Panarin. 16 points in 20 games is fine. I know he needed to do more.
To agree with your take. The video is Panarin scoring on the [power play, and you specifically said 5 on 5. Also 2023 playoff Panarin deserves to criticized.
He and the rest of the team need to win this year. They just have to.

Panarins career Regular season 669 games 777 points +154, Playoffs 57 games 46 points -16
Ranger Regular season stats 347 games 457 points +91 Playoffs 30 games 20 points -10
To this point in his career, he is a different player in the playoffs.
Is a series winning goal still that exciting knowing they didnt win the Cup??
At the time of course but now??? Does it really matter??? - Brukie
Admittedly, I still watch some goals now and then to appreciate them. But you're not wrong. Looking back on it, it's another Ranger high before they cut the knees out from under you and themselves.

should we petition YouTube to remove all Ranger playoff overtime winners in years they didn't win the Cup because we are all collectively really really bothered by them?
Roslovic's first 3 shifts were so bad. He had turnovers on every one of them. And if you're be scratched, then say you're motivated and then no show in a rivalry game like that, I'm on out on 96. If you gave me the option of Othmann or Perreault in the playoffs over Roslovic, I'd gladly take it.
Gustafsson is probably still dealing with issues related to when he got hit by Reinhart. Jones was/is going good. I'd like to see him in next game.
