FSG purchased the Penguins several years ago with a largely different roster and entirely different front office. Only Sullivan, the core, and a few important supporting players like Jarry, Rust, Pettersson remain. And Sullivan deserved to be fired many months ago for his PP incompetence. Pittsburgh will need a massive rebuild that will last at least five years so while that might not fully happen with Crosby still playing, it might have already started this season by trading Guentzel. The Penguins core average age is 36+ and they need way more support than years ago to be competitive.

Thank you, first, for dropping in. Obviously Detroit saw a painful delay in rebuilding. It’s tough because Pitt has superstars that still sell tickets. Once the years went by and I could be more honest about what a special player Sid is, Malkin an absolute force, and give the proper respect, it became apparent how hard it will be to do a rebuild. You’ve gotten to witness very special generational players. Detroit had those days and hope to again. At the end of it all, i think Sid is going to have a hard time leaving the game. Probably immediately be offered managerial or coaching duties depending on what he wants. I will try and enjoy what we get to see tonight even though we’re on opposite sides and both want the same thing. Guentzel doesn’t get the credit he deserves, and was a huge pickup. That had to be a tough move

Gotta come out hard and fast and maintain that all game long. Run those "old guys" into the ground and don't let up! This is like 2014 Red Wings 2.0 when we had Pavel, Z and Kroner. No one gave them any seniority points, and the Wings should not do that for the old Pens. (And hopefully the refs call a good game, if that is possible )

Some of the outlet passes are disturbing. Not limited to just one player, but those passes getting picked off in the neutral zone while the team changes is a nightmare. Minimize those risks, and you’re absolutely right. 60 minutes of everything you got. Leave it all on the ice

Not counting on the Refs on calling a "Good" game. I expect at least one "Pittsburgh" 5 on 3. In fact I call 5 on 3's, The "Pittsburgh 5 on 3".

Not going to be able to do a discussion on league $ until after these 4 games. For those keeping up with the AZ drama, the whole thing has been one giant fumble. The guaranteed auction is not guaranteed (AZ constitution gives up to 240 days for government to reassess value), there’s no water, electricity or roads on the 95 acres and the governing authorities have said they’ll never approve an arena where the team wants to build. The current owner just turned in the same plans that were already rejected. I went through most of the 400 pages of docs for this. The site was tribal land. If any human remains are found during excavation work has to be stopped. The amount of juggling would make this a 5 year project. There are a lot more issues but just the opening stuff is enough to shut it down. The owner was also told no water would be redirected to that site (AZ is a touch dry). The league needs to get serious and get rid of drama like this nonsense.

Your absolutely right in terms of these 3 teams... Pittsburgh and Washington are looking at a fully closed window with bona-fide superstar players in the twilight if their careers... Detroit is still "rebuilding"... which as I've made clear I don't buy that narrative as much as the Wings simply lack the coach, and perhaps some hungry players... Sid, Malkin, Letang, Ovi.... 1st ballot guys... the only Detroit player in that conversation is Kane and he won't go in as a Wing.... speaking of Kane I hope we won't be watching the last 4 games with him on a winged wheel...hes done his job and is the least of the concerns on this roster, plus his presence opens more doors in terms of free agency, let's face it, Detroit is not a desired destination and hasn't been for some time.... Yzerman deserves criticism, mainly for the Lalonde hire and keep.... hes tinkered with and changed over the roster and bottom line is you need a partner to dance so agree or disagree on the signings you can't sign a player who simply isn't interested.... as far as the deadline we simply don't know the ask for potential rentals and I for one glad no move was made because I believe there was no logical move as Yzerman has shown enough that he will in fact make moves.... at some point the players should be accountable, sure they now are playing desperate and fighting to win...but had they not stunk up the ice for long stretches and perhaps beaten Arizona in two games then they sit better in the standings... as it is, they put themselves in this position..... the off season will be interesting again...hopefully Berube or Gallant is on the things to do list

Karlsson is a 1st ballot HOFer. Not so sure Letang will be with his durability issues, but he should get in eventually. PIT is in a unique position with four future HOFers and another Hall of Very Good in Carter all past their primes.

Totally agree need Gallant also Berube would be a huge upgrade. Islanders were smart enough to make change by hiring Roy and they have since gone in right direction. Also as much as Lyon has carried us at times he also seems to always play bad when we need him most As the team outplayed Washington and has looked better than Pittsburg tonight yet Lyon is letting us down.

Started the game late.. some great officiating.... I guess Crosby can't go off alone for tackling Chiarot, and Raymond slashed down feet from the ref and no call...
