I think it would be wise to try and trade Johnny Hockey for Mitch Marner. Both over paid by a lot in my opinion. If Marner would except the trade Blue Jackets could retain half and trade him to a contender for assets . Taking a negative impact contract in Gaudreau and turning it into a positive. Hurts the cap for a year but at this point what’s a year ? I guess JD would have to hire a GM 1st.

Ik there was a teaser around Gaudreau for Hubderdeau in the past. But this is interesting. Yes, Columbus wanted Marner a few years ago when it came to the offer sheet. Yes they were open to paying the compensation. Marner wanted to stay at home. Mitch gets paid more than Johnny. Gaudreau knows Brad. A lot needs done for this to even get off the ground. And then do you put Marner with Laine and Fantilli?

I would retain half on Marner and deal him. The return should be tremendous for Marner at 5.5 . He is totally over paid at 11 mil. As for Laine you have to dump him somehow! But the team is not that bad off . Biggest problem is in goal and I think that can be fixed. I guess we need for a GM and and experienced coach. I would suggest Scott Mellanby for GM.
