It’s rare this time of year to see two talented Russian forwards available on the market, but that is the case right now ….

Evgeny Kuznetsov is the UFA looking for a team that’s a contender and willing to take much less.

Yegor Chinakhov is under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but would like to get a trade out of town because of differences as he had with the coaching staff.

On Kuznetsov…..

After being a major part of the Washington Capitals, Stanley Cup team, Evgeny signed an 8-year deal…Off-ice issues have hampered him on more than one occasion, culminating in Feb 2024 when he entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program; placed on waivers by the Capitals and briefly assigned to the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

He then was traded to Carolina where he put up 37 points in 39 games…However, both sides usually parted ways and voided the remaining contract….

He spent last year in the KHL. but he wants to return to the NHL and is basically putting the message out that he would play for a contender for $ 1 to $2 million for one year….

Would a talent like his make sense in Edmonton? Montreal has already said no…

On Chinahkov….

Yegor is only 24 years old…but entering his 5th year as a pro in North America.. He has split time with Columbus and their AHL team, Cleveland…His points and play have progressed very nicely despite limited NHL games…175 GP : 34 G, 37 A = 71 Pts…

I asked the scout about him because I’m not too familiar with Chinahkov and I was told he is a very smart player,,,especially strong on his stick anticipation….

He has officially requested a trade, and the Blue Jackets are trying to make that happen…

Who would like one of these guys?
