The Leafs just had 3 days off to think about what they've done. Two goals in their last two games. By my math. You don't win a lot of games with that kind of output. You aren't the Devils from the 90's. (Spoiler Alert).
The past is etched in stone, the future is unwritten. Write that down.
Onto tonight. Minnesota Wild. Just wondering, at Wild home games, to the play Wild in the Streets by Bon Jovi, Wild Boys by Duran Duran, or Wild Wild West by either the Espace Club or Kool Moe Dee? If not they're missing opportunities.
Toronto is 3-5-0 in their past 8 games. Scoring one or none in four of the games. In that 8 game span they've lost 3 of 5 at home. In fact the Buds last 11 home games they are 5-6-0 with a -11 goal differential and just 4/23 on the power play.
Leafs have definitely been hurting up front in January with injuries to Tavares, Pacioretty, Knies and even Dewar.
Milestone Watch
Marner is 2 assists shy of 500 career and Matthews is 1 helper shy of 300 as a Leaf.
After tonight's game, the Leafs are only home twice in their next baker dozen games.
Minnesota is 3-6-0 in their last 9 games, scoring only 21 goals, 5/24on PP. Tonights game could either be 2-1 or 6-5.
Gustavsson last 5 starts, 1-4-0, 4.23GAA, .859SV%.
As far as Canada adding another D-Man to their roster for the Four Nations Face-Off. I've seen the short list and Morgan Rielly is not on it. I guess -16 on the season didn't help his cause.
Cliff Claven Little Known Fact of the Day
Former Leafs tendy, Frederik Andersen bageled the Rangers and became the fourth Hurricanes goaltender with a shutout this season – the first team to achieve that feat in over two decades (Blues 2002-03 with 5 goalies).
