In the latter half of back to back games, the Winnipeg Jets were defeated 4-1 in Nashville saturday night. Eric Comrie got the start in goal for the Jets.

First Period:

Despite playing the previous night, the Jets were the ones to come out more aggressive to start the game. They had numerous quality scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the game but Juuse Saros kept the game scoreless. The Predators scored first at the halfway mark of the period when Roman Josi's point shot beat a well screened Comrie. It looked like Alex Carrier put the Preds up 2-0 16 seconds later but Scott Arniel challenged the play and it was deemed offside and overturned. The 1st period would end with the Preds leading 1-0.

Second Period:

At about the halfway point in the middle frame, Adam Lowry tied the game for the Jets on what looked like a rugby scrum in front of Saros. There was no other scoring in the period. The period would end with the game tied at 1.


Third Period:

With the Preds on the PP 3 minutes into the final period, a blocked shot deflected right into Steven Stamkos' wheelhouse, who scored to put the Preds up 2-1. Only 2 minutes later, Jonathan Marchessault banged in a rebound to give the Preds a 3-1 lead. Finally, Josi scored an empty goal with 2 minutes left to make the final score 4-1 for the Predators.

Some takeaways from the game:

Although the Jets only put up 24 shots in this game, they did have some quality scoring chances early on. Saros was really good for the Predators.

Dylan Samberg left the game in the 2nd period after blocking a Stamkos shot. Scott Arniel confirmed in his postgame interview that Samberg had suffered a broken foot and would be out indefinitely. Tough blow for the Jets. Samberg had really asserted himself well in the top 4 on defence to start the year. With Ville Heinola wrapping up his conditioning stint with the Moose, I'd imagine he'll step into the line-up monday night in Minnesota.

The Jets record is now 17-4. Still the best in the league. The closest team to them in the standings is the one they'll be facing off with Monday night in Minnesota. Should be a good one.
