The Wings outshot and outscored the opponent, and the power play wasn’t what saved them. NYI had a brick wall in net and went to a 1-4 formation in the 3rd. Then, two players who needed goals in Berggren and Raymond found them. It was hard work, there were still collapses, but the team came through in regulation.

The opening Isles tally felt like “here we go again”. It’s amazing what can happen in the final minutes of a game. Raymond is a point per game player this year, he just hasn’t been shooting. Berggren has been struggling. Maybe, just maybe, both found something they needed. Larkin and Compher did some dogged work to get the puck to the goal scorers and the captain is on pace for a nice goal total this year. The team needs more people finding their game.

I still love seeing Kasper on the 2nd line and think it’s the right decision. Tarasenko is in flux and struggling to find his game as well. Gustafsson made some decent defensive plays and Lyon made important saves. A much needed boost.

The pregame footage of seeing Datsyuk was actually tough to see. It was a reminder of a player so special, and a much different time for the team. He just seemed to make plays every game that made it worth the watch.

Well, it turned out on the good side and it got there in a good way. Not to sound insane, but seeing goals scored when the team doesn’t have the man advantage and with some scrums along the way is a refreshing change. They need to work out of the issues that have plagued the season early on.

It was a long watch until that last period, let me know your thoughts and what you enjoyed about the game, but also some favorite memories of Pavel. It’s fun to go back and see someone we were so lucky to have in Detroit for the time we had him.

1st Period goals:

At 5:51 after a failed Detroit power play the Islanders get on the board. 1-0 NYI

Shots: 11-9 DET
Score: 1-0 NYI

2nd Period goals:

Shots: 22-15 DET
Score: 1-0 NYI

3rd Period goals:

At 15:14, on Detroit’s 29th shot, Berggren gets the puck near the Wings blue line from Compher who was the beneficiary of a broken Isles stick. Berggren skated nearly coast to coast and snapped in the tying goal. 1-1

With 52 seconds left, it was starting to look like two teams wanted to get to OT. Larkin skated the puck into the O zone and is pinned in the corner. He gets the puck to. Raymond who scores for a late lead. 2-1 DET

Shots: 31-23 DET
Score: 2-1 DET
