Welcome to not being a real fan. You cheer to lose.

i have always criticized and been able to applaud moves by Benning. I dont blindly hate the guy, but i think he does way more wrong than he does good. Having said that, is this the most excited I am going into a season under his helm, absolutely, but the guy still got here the slowest and probably the hardest way that he needed to. This isn't how you build a semi competitive team. just my opinion though.

i know he can be frustrating to put it mildly but... don't let him wind you up.

if it gets bad, i'm sure the refs will jump in but there's no need to antagonize or be antagonized everyday. bite your tongue and don't give him the attention that he craves. don't respond or get fished in.

...but he's not bad as he used to be..... aaaaaand other gm's have made bad moves in the history of the nhl so you're not allowed to criticize anything that he has ever done.

if you feel the need to criticize any move, feel free to spin the "Wheel of Justification™). Where will it land?

1) trading away draft picks is just the cost of doing business and the 20__ draft only has good players up until the canucks pick (doesn't matter where) and there is a sharp drop off in talent after the canucks pick. Also, the draft is only good if the team has a first round pick. the draft is only deep when the team has a late 1st round pick. you can find clones of the top 10 players in the 2nd-3rd round players but if JB doesn't get 2nd-3rd round picks in trades, well those picks hardly ever turn out so it doesn't really matter. also, it doesn't matter where the team picks because JB is smarter than all other gms who will always overlook the gems that only JB knows about;

2) the team has never had any assets worth anything on the trade market;

3) NTC means that the player will never accept a trade (the ones who did are outliers even if it happened a few times and were never pressured - jason garrison doesn't count... just because.);

4) the team is still digging out from MG even though we're 6 years on;

5a) TL made the decisions that led to bad decisions; unless
5b) he was pressured to make those decisions by the Sedins who were making both player personnel decisions AS WELL as on ice deployment strategies and team style; or
5b) if the decision led to a bad outcome after TL left, it was FA meddling with JB;

6) trading away vets is dumb because the team's young players shouldn't play in a losing environment..... But forget the last 5 years so we can shine up this excuse for the next 5;

7) overpaying for bottom 6ers and bottom pairing d is a) what this franchise has to do to get players to play for it; b) just the going market value; c) the cap is going to go up to infinity and d) well, it's not your money so stfu dummy!

8) there are no cap issues because a) the cap is going up to infinity in the next few years, b) there's going to be a CBA so the team will be able to buy out all the bad contracts and....

c) IT'S ALL ABOUT THIS YEAR! who cares about the future. nothing else matters but next year and celebrating 50 years of excellence!

It's almost as though Benning thinks the end goal is the playoffs and not the Stanley cup. At least gillis gave up 1st and 2nd round picks and got us within a win of a Stanley cup. Benning dishes those 1st and 2nd round picks and we havent even made them lol

A good GM would put the best interest of his team 1st and have confidence in his abilities as a GM to make a team good instead of keeping a job. His resume should be filled with accomplishments where he should be able to find work afterwards instead of doing mediocre work continuously to keep a singular and one time job. Let's face it, he wont be a GM once his run is over lol

it's almost like a player having a great year because it's a contract year. it's easy to get caught up in recency bias.

I have shown relative restraint but have to make a little jab from time to time. I also don't want to turn Carol's thread into a sh*t-show. I try not to post when drinking in the park with Tiny Jump and the Listerine bombs gang.
