I've come to the conclusion that Bergy won the Domi deal when everyone whined he lost big time. And it wasn't even close

How do you figure? We just saved 1.9 mil in cap space and Joseph is a really solid prospect. Even if he ends up a 3rd pair Dman...(I truly believe he does look more like a top 4) this is a good trade. Galchenyuk is fine and his contract is up next year. Gives us room to possibly lock up McCann and Schultz.

Indeed, all good things...plus Kessel had a list of 2 teams to go to who were interested, so all things considered. It's kinda like a New England Patriots deal - better to trade them 1 year before they stop producing and get something decent in return, versus 1 year after and get nothing.

Getting a D prospect back (who PENS like in 1st round) is solid given all the trades of top picks in the past few years. Galchenyuk could really flourish with Malkin. He has the skill, maybe just not the right environment (and bad influences, esp in MTL w/drugs apparently)...worst case he walks next year for nothing and produces maybe 60pts which would be around 20pts less than Kessel, (so 1/4 pt/game)...if he plays well, maybe we keep him long term and get younger in the process, and of course he still has some value so trade deadline is another option...much easier to deal with him situation than Kessel who really locked in the options...

Do you guys remember when Phil went like 25 games this season without scoring a goal? Also, what % of his points were power play compared to 5v5?

Do you remember just how uninspired his play can be at times?

I say good riddance, he's going to have a harder time in Phoenix finding space when Gino or sid isn't out there

i liked phil as a fan but i didnt have to coach him. too many different sources (yohe, kingerski, rossi, mackey) all had unflattering articles about how phil treated the support staff. then there was the gambling rumor that would not go away. being at the rivers casino the majority of the night/into the morning the day of the game 4 elimination game?? then the other info came out about jake starting to hang out with him at the casino, then geno asking for a linemate other than phil. just too much in sum.

however, that doesnt let sullivan off the hook as he is without a contract at years end and the pens just hired his potential replacement in WB/S. so sully has a short leash.

galchenyuk is 25, 6'1" 201LB, makes $4.9M and is a UFA at years end. Joseph is a 19 year old Dman who is 6'2". the pens got $1.9M in cap relief and Galchenyuks contract comes off the books at years end. phil is signed thru 2022. so the cap already looks better for the following year. with this trade, the pens got cap relief, flexibility for next year, got bigger and younger.

AZ got someone who wants to play there, is a PPG player and should help attendance. that PP was ranked #26 so phil can help that too.

So Phil is a convenient scapegoat for the Pens. Now that he's gone they'll never lose a game! Stanley Cup baby! Phil was one of the best scoring wingers before he came to Pittsburgh. Malkin didn't make him that. It's hilarious how the guy plays an integral part of the Pens winning back to back Cups and now that Gunslinger Jimmy gives him away for a bag of barf, Kessel becomes useless. Cheer for the laundry! Gotta justify it!

LOL!!! Kessel refused Minnesota but accepted a trade to arguably the worst managed organization in the league! Thats funny!

He wouldn't have won any cups.

He would have probably been good enough to elevate the Leafs go a few more first round exits, and they wouldn't have sent him packing like they did.
