but there's reason they should rebound quickly... 'cause to a large degree their business models do not change with the virus.

people think developing a new vaccine is like building a house.
even for relatively easy diseases (like this corona virus, ebola, zika etc.) it takes a long time, a lot of investment and not a sure thing until gone through all the required clinical trials + follow up after implementation.

even if uncertain and expensive - diseases is 10-1000 fold more expensive.. (example current covid-19 impact)

I would quickly buy stocks in Chef's Plate and other delivery food services asap and then promptly sell them in 2 weeks.

Over the next 4-6 weeks I think we will have a better idea of where this virus is going. We can probably estimate the bottom of the market, or we've hit it already.

The one thing I may do is move into higher risk, growth stocks. We should be good for a couple years of big returns.

i guess i didn't phrase that properly..
i mean that there are several 'low hanging fruit' vaccines for diseases - relatively easy to develop.
covid-19 is very likely in that category (meaning that it is very likely a (partially) effective vaccine will be developed and available within the next 12-18months (depending on further research and available resources).

other diseases (HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and a few other poverty related and neglected diseases) do not fall in that category (although work on vaccines for those diseases would be sped up drastically with increased R&D investments).

it was foreseen already that something like Covid-19 (or even way worse) would happen soon. also see CEPI: https://cepi.net/research_dev/priority-diseases/

In the name of fairness, yes. Maybe 5 games is too much, maybe a 3 game series. But something to give teams a chance to qualify as opposed to just cutting it off. Again, imagine if the Leafs were 1 point out, how would you feel?

Considering the whole league is getting a bye-month, the rest might be a factor but it might not be. We've seen teams on long rest lose their 1st game back because they were off for too long. So it could be an advantage or it might not be.

For these bubble teams, just making the playoffs and making up games is worth it financially for them. And for the fans of those teams too.

I like the one-game for the wild-card qualifiers.

I'd also like to see a best 5 for the first round of the playoffs - and because the teams are now somewhat geographically close... alternating locations.... 1, 3 and 5 in the higher ranked team's home rink. 2 and 4 in the lower ranked rink.

There was a period of time back in the late 70s I believe when the first round was a best of 3.

I pissed myself laughing watching the donkeys on FoxNews trying to blame Trump's speech writers, the guy who operates the teleprompter and just about anyone they could name for "Trump's poor address to the nation"...
