yeah olives are very polarizing, you either hate'em or love'em, personally I loooove olives (a bacon and olive pizza is simply awesome).

I always cook with olive oil, and I don't think it really leaves any taste in the food. the oil doesn't really smell or taste like the marinated olives we're used to eating
