Total fresh start. There was no way DQ was returning after JD and Gorton were let go. If you're the new boss, there virtually no way he keeps anything left over from what got his predecessors canned. |

Ek- Stop with Messier stuff. He had a part in ousting Roger Neilson. He had a feud with Neal Smith. He's a legend and deservedly so. The Rangers dont win without him in 94, but he's done virtually nothing to prepare for a job he's supposedly wanted for most of 2 decades. He shouldn't even be brought in as a consultant for faceoffs. As Larry Brooks said, Drury waited a long time for this opportunity, but he wouldn't take the job if he felt Dolan,(who is who he is), and/or Sather wouldn't let him do his job. |

Why on earth would Tortorella return to a situation that he absolutely hated? He HATED Larry Brooks - that's no exaggeration. You think he wants his next job to be to deal with him again?
C'mon. And if Drury hires Mess as a coach, his tenure as GM will be one of the shortest in NHL history. He's not a coach, he's never been a coach at any level.

He put in time in the front office years ago (2009 I think), but I would agree that he's never put in time as a coach and this would be a mistake. |

Why would a rookie GM hire a totally unproven coach like Messier?
Why would a rookie GM hire Torts, who has a reputation to be a bit of a wildcard, and who clearly despised the NY media?
I know you have sources but I'm surprised those are the top 2 candidates. I'm just a fan, but it would make way more sense for Drury to look at guys like Gallant, Boudreau, Tocchet, Hartley, even Babcock. Patrick Roy would be another option, although Drury might hesitate if he feels Roy will step on his toes as GM.
But Messier and Torts? I guess if sources say so... |
