Competition is necessary and now we have some:
Heinola can play right side as well
This will push Stanley/Heinola and Samberg that’s a good thing - jjonah
There is no competition. Heinola and Samberg are waivers exempt. They get sent down and as of now Stanley-Beaulieu is your bottom pairing.

For Dillon with term this is a fair trade.
Dmen are impossible, close to, to get.
Caps need cap space as Ovi about to get a raise from $9 million to $10+ |

Salary dump shouldn't cost you two 2nd rounders. But it's something at least, now on to a Perreault contract. |

Dillon is a good player, it’s not like we got a stiff here.
Can be steady for Pionk or paired with DeMelo again can shut down the zone
And for the first time in 2-3 years someone may clear the front of the net with some anger |

I would trust the draft and develop strategy having a competition between Stanley and Heinola for the 2 LD spot loser gets 3 LD and find another RD.
Now the Jets are set for the next 3 years at LD blocking any chance of development of their prospects unless they plan on trading Morrissey sometime before his NMC kicks in next year..

Somewhere, some place, Connor Hellebuyck is smiling, and so should be Neal Pionk and Ville Heinola. My hope is that Heinola can run the #1 PP.
And our smaller forwards just grew by about three inches! We'll win more puck battles this season. |

Why does everyone assume that Samberg is even ready for regular season game never mind a top 6 role.
He could be ready and he could be 1-2 years away and he could be a bust.
Jets have a window of sorts. Can score goals and have a goalie.
The D had to be addressed and Dillon isn’t perfect but he’s a very nice piece.
Stastny at his price and Dillon is a good night |

Yeah that's true, at least Dillon has term too, didn't overpay for a rental. |

Scheifele, Connor and Ehlers can score goals, they really need another goal scorer. |

Signing Tomas Tatar could be interesting.
He’s probably only get a 1-year prove himself contract |

it depends who else is interested in acquiring Dillon's services, there may have been another offer out there |

And on another defensive front, the #NHLJets have/had been trying to make a deal for Nate Schmidt but the latter will not waive his modified no-trade clause despite, what I have been told, is several attempts by the Jets. - Ross77

The Jets really don't have much salary cap left to bring in a scorer, or at least one that costs a few $$$.
Right now they have approx. 18.6 mill left (counting the LTIR). Now if they re-sign Copp, Stanley, Pionkk and a back-up goalie that is probably going to cost them around $13M - leaving them with only $5.6 of cap room.
And they would still need to add four forwards. That doesn't leave them much room for a proven goal scorer. Unless they deal Copp?

Samberg is 22. It’s quite literally now or never. Don’t Niku him. |

Now or never?
He came out of University, much different.
Poolman was 24, almost 25 before he was “full time” NHL’er
Writing off prospects at 22? Especially Dmen would be a horrible form of player development |

These are both good acquisitions/ signings. Dillon will pair well with DeMelo and some hard-hitting brawn to the D-corps. Statsny is now more of a depth utility player for just about any of the top three lines. Likely he will play wing on the second line.
Chevy tried several times to get Nate Schmidt first but the guy just refused to come to Winnipeg. It just supports the theory of how difficult a job it is for Chevy vs teams in warm weather or big cities, etc. Good job with Dillon.
Jets did likely not have enough remaining cap to get Hamilton or any high-ticket Dman in free agency with looming potential arbitration with Copp and Pionk and that hole that Statsny just filled. Dillon is the next best thing. |

Dano had a proven track record at the NHL level across multiple seasons. He showed a lot, but was never given a shot at sticking in the lineup.
Samberg just hasn’t played. |

you are correct, also, top pairing big minutes in all situations all year with the moose wont hurt Samberg. the jets love to stagger their entry level deals |
