It’s one way to clear up cap space. Do what Montreal did with PK Subban. |

Gotcha, I just don't see the Jets trading Morrissey but who knows.
I'm one of the few who doesn't like the Schmidt and Dillon trades, I could see acquiring one of them but not both, they're taking up too much cap space and will make doing anything else difficult. |

I am with you! I am though hopeful that both players finally put us over the top and we win a championship. So I guess I am on the fence on the trades. |

Both are fantastic acquisitions. Schmidt is not only a decent Dman but a real glue guy who can make a real difference in the motivation factor for the whole team and take some of the pressure of a very intense guy like Wheeler. Dillon is the hard-hitting Dman who no forward likes to play against. He is the extra brawn the Jets were lacking since Buff's departure.
We need them both because there is a chance that the Jets may not be able to afford Pionk with only $10.7 MM in cap left for Copp, Pionk, and Stanley. Lets face it though, the top ticket guys like Hamilton. Jones, etc were not coming to Winnipeg. Chevy did an amazing job the land these two studs.

Schmidt has a big personality and that might be the reason Vancouver was looking to move him.
We already have a Dillon in Stanley and Samberg.
I've heard from a source that Pionk actually likes playing here, signing him should've been priority one for Chevy. It's funny that he let the D core flounder for two seasons and right when he had a solid D prospect (and possibly another) that is ready to make the jump that's when he traded for a couple dmen to block the guy.. Lol.. And if he can't afford Pionk that's his own fault, he ate up all his cap flexibility when he acquired these two.
No doubt these two will help but there's plenty of internal and external options that could help for much less of a cap hit. Schmidt and Dillon are decent dmen but I'd hardly call them studs, if anything they were problems for Van and the Caps and Chevy paid for them, he sure likes compensating other teams for their problems, that's what four or five times now that he's done that. There's Caps and Van fans that can't believe anyone wanted these guys and are ecstatic Chevy took their problems off of their hands. |

How do you know Samberg is like Dillon? He had 15 penalty minutes in 32 games last year, hardly tearing up the AHL with his grit.
He could become that player but it’s not guaranteed.
Stanley also does not play the same way as Dillon does game in game out.

You are right, we don’t know anything about Samberg, except for the fact that it looks like he will not get a chance to play on the main roster anytime soon. And, as such we should be trying to trade Samberg as a part of a package to get something good back in return. |

In the last month or so before Vincent left he stated that Samberg needed more work. I'm guessing another year on the Moose before he might be ready. Heinola on the other hand should be ready to go to the big club and we will likely see him play 20 games or more as the first backup to an injury. He may also rotate somewhat with Stanley.
Chevy had been trying to get Schmidt for two years. He didn't mesh well in VCR but as a result we got him relatively cheap. To say that VCR fans and Capitals fans can't believe anyone wanted these guys is a completely inaccurate statement. Both team needed to clear cap and Washington in particular were not happy about losing Dillon. Signings of Ovechkin, Pettersson were major roadblocks to keeping those two guys. They are very capable Dmen and Jets fans should be thankful to get them and improve upon a much-needed area .

I know we won't find out now what he is. |

If Heinola is possibly rotating with Stanley where's Beaulieu?
I know what I read, there are fans of both those teams that are glad they're gone and were able to get anything for them, I'm sure there's some though that wanted them kept around.
I just don't see the need for both of them, one maybe but not both.
Yes I know the Caps and Canucks had important players to sign and Chevy took their problems off their hands, guess he forgot he had his most important dman to sign before he blew a bunch of his cap space. |

Chevy now as $9.8 mm of cap space for two remaining Rfa's . Seems doable. Pionk $5.5MM and Copp $4.3 MM would get us there...and I think both those numbers might be a tad high. In Chevy we trust ! |

Okay, does that leave any room at all though?
Can't see them spending right to the cap without a bit of space. |

Getting rid of Niku frees another $750k. Do also we really need Beaulieu?

Sending Niku to the Moose gets rid of his $750K and that's likely where he's headed, Niku isn't even a factor for the lineup or the salary cap, he can be sent to the Moose for full cap relief, trading him away for nothing doesn't gain the Jets anymore cap space as they'd gain the same amount of cap space by demoting him to the AHL.
I'm not saying they need Beaulieu but you can't just wish him away.. Lol.. seriously though I think he'll be the #7 dman, doubt they trade him or send him to the Moose, like it or not this GM and coach like vet players.
Unless there's injuries early on or another trade happens I think Heinola is starting the year with the Moose, that is if he hasn't requested a trade or a European assignment. |
