Some teams just never learn
Hey! He had a good year in a sheltered 3rd pairing role for 2 million
Quick, give him more money and more years and we can shoehorn him into a top 4 spot. That ALWAYS works..... |

Holland was a great GM 15 years ago though. He must be smarter than us lol. |

Top 4 is some combo of Nurse, Barrie, Keith, Bouchard. Ceci solidifies the 3rd pair. They downgraded on D to improve up front - Hyman, Foegele. Also not finished. |

Ceci is most often unable to do either, pass or dump the puck out.
When I heard Cici was about to sign a $3.25 million multi-year deal, I immediately presumed it would be a market deal valued around $1.1 million per season for three years. This would allow Tippett and Holland to shovel him between the AHL and NHL. Paying him over $3 million per season is most unsagacious.
I cannot understand Holland's logic here. Perhaps he owed agent J.P. Barry a favor.
Holland patiently waited until he was rid of Chiarelli's most unfavourable contracts, suggesting a desire to wisely utilize the salary in an effort to correct specific roster deficiencies. Instead he proceeded to waste it by making deals eerily reminiscent of those made by Chiarelli.

It appears you're discussing the defensive lineup of a hockey team, specifically the top four defensemen and the addition of forwards to improve incredibox the team's offensive capabilities.
