I am one of those guys. Low risk, high reward reclamation’s like Evgeni Svechnikov could end up working out great! If he sucks, then there is nothing gained and not really anything lost.
This is also the move I have been begging Chevy to make for sometime. - TheUltimateJet
I agree with this. Very little risk involved and the guy is a freak athletically. Honestly, he is probably better than Veselainen right now.
The rumor mill is Niku is on the trading block, so don't be surprised if Niku pops up in the headlines soon. |

Read or heard that Niku was being shopped last year and there was no one interested, doubt that's changed but we'll see, my guess is he's sent to the Moose and maybe someone claims him but I don't think anyone will, if he isn't claimed I won't be surprised if they loan Niku to someone else's AHL team so he can showcase himself to another organization. |

Olli Jokinen, Eric Fehr, Brossoit, Beaulieu, Kulikov, Setoguchi, Tlusty
Are a few past (one current) that come to mind as reclamation projects. There are a few others that could fit the description of 'project'. Varying success with this group, some careers salvaged.
A challenge of actually signing a successful reclaimation is the question of when do they play? not much time left on the PP, 2nd line is strong, 3rd line has one spot open for a player who might score 10-15 goals and draw a lot of tough assignments requiring disciplined play, 4th line takes lineup spot away from a young player who is at least as cheap and has equal upside to their career. What kind of a free agent would want to enter those circumstances? the field is small for what would fit us fan's definition of a worthy project. - 2.0
I don’t know that anyone other than Setoguchi was actually a reclamation project.
- Jokinen was just old
- Fehr was thought of as a misguided breakout candidate who promptly died and went to reclamation status
- LB was a gamble/Helle pleaser deal
- Beaulieu was bad and traded for at a bad player price
- Kulikov was paid for as a top 4 guy for no reason even though he was a cap dump/healthy scratch to Buffalo shortly beforehand
- Tlusty was a rental not far removed from a stellar career year |

Reality is that if any team wanted him, he would have been traded by now. The cost to acquire him would not have been high. Might as well send him to the Moose and whatever happens happens.
I'm fine with losing him. He is not going to make the Jets, and if he is a Moose, he is just blocking someone else's development.

Yeah I know, that's basically what I said.
The Jets have too many defense prospects, many should be trade chips if they have any value in a trade, not as a main piece obviously but as a sweetener/extra in a deal. |

Wasn't disagreeing, just adding to your post....
I won't be shocked if Morrissey gets traded.

Perhaps he’s part of a trade to get Jack Eichel ? |

Gotcha
I just don't see that happening but I guess it's possible, can't see them trading a guy who extended long term, Morrissey like other Jets doesn't look or sound too happy anymore though. |

We'll see. I think in the Svechnikov scenario, it makes sense. Both have essentially been banished to dominate at lower levels while not getting much of a chance in the NHL. I am not saying Niku will land an immediate impact player, but was discussed in a minor deal as per Elliott Friedman's podcast. Not expecting a massive return, just a case where 2 guys need a change of scenery and new opportunities. If they can't get anyting in exchange for Niku, then the moose will have some serious depth at D.

I agree - they are not going to trade Morrissey for anything less than exceptional return.

To an AHL contract with the Moose and a PTO with the Jets, strange that they didn't just sign him to a two-way contract now, guess they don't have to pass him through waivers if they don't think he's good enough to be on the Jets but still want to keep him in the system for depth but it's unlikely any team would’ve claimed him anyway, maybe they're close to their contract limit or something idk, hopefully E.Svech makes an impact at camp and can make the big club, would be nice to have another big winger out there. |

There's a story in today's Winnipeg Free Press about Morrissey's father passing away this month, my condolences to Josh and his family. |

This would be justice! Especially considering how the Kris Draper trade worked out for Jets 1.0. |

I have more hope for him than Veselainen.

with the Olympics looking more likely for NHL'ers, one early prediction I'll make is you will see playoff Sheifele, Sheif wants to be a part of that team more than anything. The good news is he will be at his best, the bad news, too long of shifts and wont come off the ice on the PP lol |

You mean Wheeler right? Guy is skilled but clearly logs way too much TOI and can only breathe through his mouth after 5 shifts. Scheif's and Ehlers rarely appear gassed, and I have never thought of them as overplayed

No doubt, and what a sad statement on Scheifele that is. |

Shief during the regular season only skates in one direction, when you don't back check you can take longer shifts.
I'd be very surprised if Wheeler made team USA, I think the Olympics has now passed him by.
I have not read if Ehlers is playing in the Olympic Qualifying games for Denmark yet? anyone? these are happening soon |

for sure the 1st pp unit has been staying out too long, valid point. the rest of the icetime is because his line starts most periods in most games, starts most shifts after the tv timeouts and other longer stoppages and first shift after the pk. it adds up. I agree that Wheeler needs to shorten his shifts, don't agree with the characterization of Sheifele's play that almost sounds like a suggestion that he is a selfish player who is lazy? |

I would be surprised if Ehlers plays in the qualifiers. about 6 million reasons why not and player insurance was a huge stumbling block for the actual olympics. but - never say never - Ehlers loves to play hockey and to play a big role. |

Without putting a lot of thought into it I'd think Connor and Hellebuyck are both going to be on the U.S squad, Ehlers is the best Danish player so I'd would think he'd be on the team if he wants to be. |

I believe Denamrk has not yet qualified and those qualifier games are about to start. i can not imagine the Jets would tell Ehlers he couldn't play in the qualifier games in the hopes to get his country in and then turn around and let other players play in the Olympics. |

am I calling Sheifele a lazy, selfish player, No. Does he back check every shift? No. Is he at times lazy and selfish? Yes.
