If ownership is calling the shots on a rebuild/ playoffs, then you would think someone with a high profile, like Rutherford, would tell him to pound sand and leave.
I think maybe the ownership listens too much to its managers group, allowing themselves to be fooled every year, into thinking they will be a playoff team, as long as they spend to the cap.

I think ownership dictates a direction but I doubt Aquilini tells management to spend more money on wingers and which players to go after. It’s always been a flawed direction during these past 8-9 years but it’s been poorly executed too which just makes it that much worse.

Judging by his movement the last couple of games compared to earlier, it makes you wonder if he just straight up doesn’t bother to bring his maximum effort every night.

He had a very nice 1st year, then stopped putting in a consistent effort. Heck, he was a bit physical that 1st year.
I think he lost all interest in trying to be a bit physical, when he tried to hit Czikas? And bounced right off him, into the open gate.

I think all the other GMs in the league text FA during free agency and tell him which players are the "best", and then he gets so excited and tell his GMs to do his bidding. Then all the other GMs get together and laugh

I think he had a couple of incidents like that, vs the Isles and the Kings

Makes you wonder if he’s better off just shedding 5-7 pounds to gain back some lost speed since he’s not really physical anyway. I remember him saying he out on weight after his rookie season.

I got what Benning was trying to do early in his regime and I get what these guys are trying to do, but if you are trying to get faster and better defensemen, then it might be a good idea to move out a slow skater and bad defensemen 1st.
Adding a fast skater, doesn't make the whole team faster, or adding a better defenseman like Bear( a #5), doesn't make the defense better.

Ya, he got way to bulky and it showed
. At 6'1 and 210 lbs, you would expect him to be a bit physical, which he has been the last 2 games, unfortunately it is more of a miss, than a hit with him, in that department.

I won't be missing him, when he is gone.

Ah yes, I didn't think it was Czikas, which is why I put a ? After his name.👍

I think it also has to do with FA liking certain players (like Miller, Boeser, Bo) and not letting management do anything but keep them. Millers name was great for ticket sales last year. Boeser years prior, Bo has also been a good name for ticket sales (jersey as well for all 3). This is how I see him interfering, not so much telling them what to do, but which players to keep at any cost.

Not sure of the full injury status of the Avalanche, but if they continue only having 1 of their top 6 forwards in the lineup, I won't be surprised to see Sakic tank, so they can get a chance at another centre high in the draft, then go on several more cup runs.😁

That's nearly $770,000 per week, $110,000 per day, $4,600 per hour, or $76 per minute....for the next nine years.

No more Dries at center. We can see Studnicka (frank) up a bunch now instead.

You'd think this would be common sense to fans. Even for higher lineup guys who don't have to worry about job security, they don't want to move down a line or lose powerplay ice time. They don't give a poop about Bedard.
- Nucker101

Folks need to move on from the Bedard thing he ain't coming to Van. Also there is no way The Kraken and Kings can keep this pace up. Spots are up for grabs so let's fucking gooooooooooooooooooo

Unreal that the Canucks are taking out a career minor leaguer to give a young player they acquired via trade, a shot at that spot.
