Good for them.
Savvy deal to acquire some vet depth at an important position.
I'd go all in too if i was them.
They still need help on D tho, obviously.
Edit: unles they anticipate getting Muzzin back i suppose. - dbot
For how O'Reilly has played this year, I would consider it an over payment. |

It's a gamble for sure.
Could blow up, could pay off.
At this stage in the TML's and Dubas' career, you gotta go for it tho.

True with only a year left on that entire team. Makes sense. It will be rebuild if they don't win this year. |

I just saw a thing that said they wish Van would do what Minny did getting a 4th round pick for taking on money.
I had a look and the best 4th round pick Van has produced since 2000 is Jack Rathbone. |

Sidorov had himself a game. I like the way he plays. The Blades went up 5-0 after the 1st. Game finished 6-4. Blades are a fast team, surgical and quick passes. |

Everyone else is trading and Canucks stuck in speculation mode.
After reading the debates on direction I wonder if Canuck management is also doing same.
Honestly don’t know if we trade everyone, if possible, it will make a bit of difference. It’s another limbo staying in the bottom trying to develop picks.
What’s needed is a combo of trades signings and good drafting. One stud player at every position gets you to the promised land.
Do Canucks have some of those players now? |

I don’t get why a team short on cap space takes on more for a 4th? Maybe that’s all they can do being stuck. |

It's really not a lot of cap space for a team with a lot of current cap space (due to it accruing (LTIR) through the year)
As The Athletic has reported for the past week, the Wild have created oodles of salary-cap space heading into the March 3 trade deadline, and one strategy we sensed Guerin was lining himself to execute was becoming a banker for cap-strapped teams to facilitate trades.
For the price of $74,000 in cash (the prorated portion of the salary O’Reilly has remaining), a former fourth-round pick the Wild had no intention of signing June 1 and $557,000 in salary-cap retention (the prorated portion of the $1.875 million AAV value the Wild are retaining for O’Reilly), the Wild essentially bought themselves a fourth-round pick in 2025.
Plus, they played a part in the heating up Blues, chasing them for a playoff spot, to go into full scale sell mode.
The Wild have a little less than $3 million in cap space left, which amounts to the ability to currently add approximately a $10 million player or a total of $10 million in multiple players. So even with Friday’s minimal salary-cap retention, the Wild still have the ability to add players if they want or further play the role of banker by being a third-party conduit. They could also add by acquiring lucrative contracts from cap-strapped teams for picks and prospects.
They're still in a really tight bind this off-season with their cap because of their buyouts. |

Interesting. So are the Canucks Looking to do that with putting LTIR on some more players? Or are they looking to trade out players and take on salary back to make it work? The latter gets you higher picks I believe.

Very. Tape to tape and never spent a lot of time with the puck on their sticks. Seattle here Monday and Tuesday. They are the team to beat IMHO. Loaded with talent. |

You know how there was a big knock on Cole Caufield thanks to his size, same with Alex Debrincat landing in the 2nd round.
A lot of teams kicking themselves for not picking them now. |
