The team is getting older and no cap room. I don't mind that at all. I think it has a better chance to be a top 10 pick. - VANTEL
Less risk to give up 10oa this year than to possibly give up a higher pick than that for NYI. |

If I was an Islander fan I would be concerned. Lou basically pulled a Benning move by trading for Bo. Desperate trade to try and compete now. They look to be on the back end of the slope.

True, but usually those teams get exposed at some point during the run, or lose in the final. Then they spend like mad thinking they are "just right there, look we made the final!" Then come apart completely...ala Montreal, Ottawa, Canucks in 82', etc.
While I of course want to win a Cup, I would prefer a solid team ready to win year after year. I think this is a more tried and tested method - carsonagenic
But what is the most likely factor in any future Canuck success:
1. Solid team management on and off the ice?
Or
2. Dumb luck? |

I loved when he answered too much money and too long right after extending Horvat.

I think he said it because he didn’t do that deal. Probably another owner decision. |

What I think most don't see how is fricken hard it is to get a player of even Bo's calibre. 9th overall pick in 2013.
Ruby and I talked about it that in the majority of drafts the top 15 forwards will score just over a half a ppg and above.

Again, everyone can have their own opinion of how to play this out but I fully think you start making the changes as soon as possible. I think waiting two years and then starting to change easily turns two into four.
Take the top 10 draft pick this year and fill a hole. In the summer fix two spots on D.
I don't care about a 2-mil cap hit on the last four years of OEL buyout. I just don't.
Canucks are top 10 in scoring and need to take advantage of that by fixing the D in the next two years. |

The only thing that impressed me about this years draft was D Petey. Looks so far like a young Edler.

Yup.
I wonder what NHL teams are run by BoGs and what teams are run by individual private owners? It would be interesting to see if success is more likely with one style or the other.
And when it comes to private ownership, did the Canucks have more success with an absentee owner like McCaw or a hands-on owner like FA? |

Then you get teams like TOR that have sucked and been very good under the same absentee owner.
Wurtz I think was a hands on owner (in a way) but mostly left things to Mgmt.
Det I don't know if Pizza Man was a meddling owner or not

Neither
1. They are dumb
2. They have no luck |

Until 4 years from now when we need that 2m cap space. We don't need the space now, wait until we need it to buy him out. Maybe something happens to that knee and we LTIRetire him. |

13-16 I’m sure was the goal. Even 20th overall is a great asset in this draft. I consider a top 20 pick to be “high.” - CanuckDon
I figure in the 15-16 range we’d still get a solid D pick. |

If we are still worrying about 2 mil of cap in four years then there is no hope for this team. They will be cursed forever. |
