Hughes is a legit 20+ minute dman, he has proven that this year and last. His weakness is when they get hemmed in, but he defends the rush very well, does a good job at preventing teams from starting a cycle, and controls play as good as the best defensement in the league.

Pettersson is currently one of the top 15 centres in the league, if you can't build around him, very few players will ever be good enough to build around.

Demkos peak is a top 5 goalie, hopefully injuries don't force him to go the way of Schneider.

Silovs has potential, but Delia is only good for tanking.

Keeping him is beyond stupid. Sorry you can't see past your nose. This crap about buying him out in two years when the cap hit will be almost identical and the penalty will be 1.5 mil in years five and six instead of 2 mil is ludicrous.

Worrying about a 2 mil penalty in year 7 and 8 is laughable. Your solution to fixing a bottom five team is sit on your hands and do nothing for two more years.

I am not a Hughes fan, but I see that the team needs him for now.

I think Canucks have some very good pieces in place and I like the additions. They need to fix the D. They can score but they can't stop the puck from going in their net and that is what they have got to fix.

I fully agree keep away from top end UFA in free agency but definitely look for bargains. Severson is 28 and if he is asking for too much move on their will be other players. But yes do look in the UFA pool for sure.
