I just got in from the Abby Canucks game against Barracudas. We left 8 mins to go, and it was 7-2. Spencer Martin had a horrible game. Hoglander looked solid. William Eklund looked awesome, he scored a couple and a couple of assists.

Canucks best players are up with the big club so I am not critical but Martin does suck.

I asked Aatu Räty how he believes his first 8 games with Abbotsford have gone.

Buying out OEL only creates 3m cap space for the next 2 years. We're not competing for the cup over this two years so we should hang off of buying him out until at least 1 or 2 more seasons have passed. Buying him out with 2 seasons remaining should be easier then buying him out now.
He's still a top 6 defender(marginally) who's better then a lot of the crap available.

The Canucks have a tendency to pay #6 defenceman 3m... I'd rather pretend we've bought him out and are paying him only 3m for the next two seasons because 3m savings plus a 3 million dollar bottom pairing defenceman doesn't save anything. If someone wants him at 50 percent retained, trade him. He's trash.

Buy him out when we need the money to pay someone good, not to overpay in free agency.
