I've read that the Blues aren't really looking to rebuild, rather retool. There was chatter of them being in on Meier as well. They have 3 1sts this year...

With a core signed for next season (even though they have no passion), I could see that.

So no deal until draft day and it will be small return. Why bother?

IF there's a trade between the Canucks and Pens it will probably happen today after the Pens waiver situation is clear at 11am.

If nothing happens that means whatever they were discussing fell apart.

Maybe later

2024 2nd round pick (NJD) [Conditional]**
2024 7th round pick (NJD)
*Conditions: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.
**Conditions: If NJD make the 2023 Eastern Conference Final (ECF) and Meier plays in 50% of the games, or NJD make the 2024 Eastern Conference Final, the pick becomes NJD's 2024 1st.

If 2024 1st is top 10, NJD have the option to instead transfer their 2025 1st.

Should NJD transfer their 2023 1st to their 2024 1st (As it is top 2 protected), and they make the conference final in 2024, SJS will receive their 2025 1st.

Can't remember which Athletic article it was the other day, but it mentioned how Rutherford (and Allvin by extension?) was really good at correcting what they perceived as mistakes. Would sign a guy and trade him a year later, trade for a guy then trade him again. Glass half full look is they recognized when something was out of step or wasn't working and remedied that, as opposed to not admitting a mistake and letting it sink.

They might have thought the Canucks would be more competitive (based on what they said and their signings), so now they're trying to correct that by trading JTM. (Hypothetically)

I told him couple weeks ago that I'd been logging in and he said he prepaid for like a decade or something and pretty well forgot he had it.

He said "just go ahead, log in whenever you want" So I have been.

I actually posted it in the Lefty Athletic blog yesterday about it.

"the hate is real for not seeing a path to the SC." There were a few words before that.

The losses are suck and such. To say it's just Miller though isn't exactly fair.

If there was one actual plan then everybody would be doing it and it would succeed every time. There isn't though and the plan isn't just a straight line to the SC.

Pretty sure in that Athletic article about GM's about trade deadline and such about how it's much easier to screw things up then to get it right one of the GM's says.

Wait are you saying that all the talk about how easy it is to just keep tanking and draft is not the formula?

Here I thought it was ownership meddling and coward GM’s not sticking to long term plan.

Interesting, so keep subtracting. Like they made room for JTM by trading Bo. Now they are trading JTM to make room for Petey?

Is the ‘23 draft the difference maker?

Part of the problem is that surefire prospects can get injured and lose development time, ability and/or speed and not be able to get it back. A lot has to go right at the right time for a run to happen, let alone win a Cup. You can argue that Juolevi might have become the top 4 defenseman we need right now has he not gotten injured in his D+1 year and Boeser might be a real 30+ goal scorer had he not broken his back.

Team has had many problems that's for sure. It seems as if correcting the team structure or ability to play together has started. Hopefully some more smart moves will be made, I don't expect them to be big moves or anything immediately.

Should get good players with their 2 possible first rounders. Wouldn't expect them to help for another two years though.

They traded Bo because they signed JTM, not the other way around.

I am hoping Carolina can make it work for a JTM trade. I like them as trading partners as they have a lot of good pieces

As the #redwings close in on an extension with captain Dylan Larkin, it sounds like the eight-year extension will come in north of the $8.5M AAV Bo Horvat recently got from the #isles.

If the return is a young defence(joseph) or center(byfield) for a team trying to win with some older players, it doesnt need to be. Dont get me wrong, the picks are great but theres a lot out there and JTM makes the least sense in this lineup.

Yikes!
When will these stupid contracts for older players stop? I don’t think there’s a GM that doesn’t have one or two of them.
