Reading through the highlights seems it was all deleted with bans. Not sure why with all this trade movement in NHL.

But nothing much for Canuck fans. Shenn disappointed on. What happened to the vast interest driving value up? The the rest is speculation on JTM, BB, Garland, Myers which could lead to more let down. I guess it’s a wait and see. The usual you know.

For all of us who were unsure about retaining on Miller/his new contract, some info:

It’s going to be very difficult to consummate a trade prior to the deadline, however. Miller has a $5.25 million cap hit for this season before his seven-year, $56 million extension kicks in for 2023-24. NHL rules dictate that the Canucks would not be able to retain any salary on his current contract unless they applied the same retention percentage through the entirety of his extension. In other words, any prospective buyer would need to find a way to absorb Miller’s full $5.25 million cap hit for this season.

Regarding what happens when a player is traded with retained salary and they have a contract extension that hasn't begun yet:

The league settled this issue with clubs back in 2013: the retained salary percentage always applies across the current active contract AND the extension

So if they retain now, they retain the whole way. That's... not bad? Makes it a bit easier to navigate a trade if teams are balking at the 8 mil price tag. If the Canucks retain 1.25 or so... would Miller at 6.75 be more valuable?

The whole Miller section from Dayal:

Let’s start with Miller’s situation. Right off the bat, there’s uncertainty around his injury status. He didn’t fly with the team and play against Dallas. Miller’s camp has described the injury as something relatively minor, but the Canucks announced it as a week-to-week ailment. That adds an immediate hurdle.

Nonetheless, colleague Shayna Goldman and Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, among other journalists, have reported that Miller’s name has surfaced in trade discussions.

That’s a problem because there are only six NHL teams currently projected with more than $2 million in cap space (the Predators, Senators, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Ducks, Coyotes, and Sabres) according to CapFriendly. It’s why so many trades like the Horvat, Ryan O’Reilly, Timo Meier, Patrick Kane, Dmitry Orlov, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jake McCabe moves all required some combination of retentions and/or third-party brokers to make the cap math work.

The Canucks won’t have any of those crucial avenues available to them for Miller. That’s why I’d be shocked if Vancouver finds a way to trade him ahead of the trade deadline. There are so many short- and long-term financial obstacles on top of the uncertainty around Miller’s injury.

One thing I learned from current and former NHL executives while working on my story about how trades are negotiated is that the seeds for some trades that happen at the draft are often planted prior to the deadline. That’s worth keeping in mind because the Canucks will have a window to deal Miller at the draft prior to his extension and NMC kicking in on July 1. Trade conversations may not yield anything before March 3, but they could pay dividends down the line.

Pittsburgh colleague Rob Rossi also had some interesting reporting that suggested it was the Canucks that approached the Penguins regarding Miller, with GM Ron Hextall showing muted interest. If that’s true, it suggests that the Canucks may be ready to accept that they made a mistake with the Miller signing and explore exit options. That would be a positive indicator because the club would need to swallow its pride and accept less in a trade than what they could have gotten for him a year ago, in order to facilitate a trade prior to July 1.

Miller’s future will remain a very fascinating storyline to monitor heading into the offseason.

Weeks now of Chychrun being held out for TRR and two days to go. Nothing and a lot of teams seem to be getting on with their business.

Definitely one of the better run organizations in the NHL such a strong and storied history in a great hockey market

They should keep him. Build around him. Coyotes have a really good prospect pool.

Hayton starting to come around.

33 picks in the next 3 drafts is rather insane.

It's like other GMs realized there's other defensemen available and Arizona didn't know

I don't think they can. They pretty much torched their relationship with the guy. He has a NTC kicking in this summer so this was the BEST time to trade him.

A 1st and 3rd round pick for that goalie and defensemen.

Insiders said that defensemen was worth a 1st and 3rd alone earlier.

Rutherford was right GM's know more than the media.

He is signed for 2 more years. Team has a lot of good prospects coming up. Going to get another very good player this season. I'd be a bit jealous right now if the team didn't have an insane amount of garbage on the actual roster.

At some point you need to start somewhere. Arizona hasn't tried to build anything because they are always too busy taking on other teams crap.

Follow up on my last tweet: Jakob Chychrun race getting tighter. Oilers move a 1st, get Ekholm. Kings move a 1st, get Gavrikov. Capitals move a 1st, get Sandin. Unless LA or WAS still engage (Caps have another 23 1st), Penguins, Hurricanes & Blues remain in the mix for Chychrun.

No idea why Carolina would be in on him. No idea why the Blues would be in on him. Penguins don't really have the assets required.

Washington makes a bit of sense in the fact that they are looking for D with term and don't want to rebuild just re-tool. Could float a few of their floundering prospects Arizona's way.

Yeah CBJ overplayed their hand on Gavrikov. For whatever reason Boston bailed and went to Washington when they decided to become sellers. GM's like CBJ I think thought they had more control and failed to realize what happens should other teams also become sellers. Nashville and Washington have done well to capitalize this.

I don't think Gavrikov is nearly as good as some believe and that's something NHL execs know.

Agreed. CBJ should have taken Craig Smith in the original Boston deal and now they have Quick's contract and gave up Korpse too.

I've read that the Blues aren't really looking to rebuild, rather retool. There was chatter of them being in on Meier as well. They have 3 1sts this year...

When they said rebuild he said trade me. It’s what could happen to Canucks for players who want to win. But that isn’t really a problem lol.
