Big goalies with hip surgeries at such a young age is never a good thing

Ullmark did the same thing.

No, no I'm looking for someone who is playing for Boston. Someone whom Kevyn Adams failed to properly evaluate and properly pay. The position remains a blackhole on the team with no prospects of that changing until 3 seasons from now. That's as bad a job as anyone could possibly do on the single most important position in the sport.

Top 5 GM

This is such a brain dead conversation.

Me - guys sign with winning teams all the time. Who wouldnt leave last place buffalo for the bruins. Especially for matching money.

You- KA didnt give him enough $ or force him to sign.

You be you.

Good post.

And ullmark is completely KA'S fault.
Should have held a gun to his head to play in buffalo over boston.

Really good post actually

- Boss34

No, not all his fault. But should have tried a bit harder than signing him to 1 year deal walking him into FA.

First part is right, Hutton stunk. But apparently Ullmark wanted to sign here, it does seem like KA whiffed there.

That's a good point.

Probably wanted to see if ullmark could stay healthy.
Probably wanted to evaluate ullmarks vibe level 1st hand.

Didnt ullmark kind of suck? And get hurt a lot?
I was ok with letting him go.

Easy to look back now as a revolutionist?

So…

if UPL = Ullmark
Then
Year 9 is when we will see the starting caliber goalie.

Guess Ullmark had a gun to his head, since that's the analogy we're using.

Imagine, you might have to overpay in Buffalo. The "plan" won out and we didn't "overpay." Turns out the overpayment was actually the best value contract in the NHL.

Turns out our GM can't evalute the goaltender position.

He has since traded for Levi and drafted Topi. Great. I am happy in 3 years I won't have to see me team sunk by bottom 10 goaltending every year.

Meanwhile, last year submarined by goalies before it could ever start. And this year no improvement. In fact, an arrogant stance that Eric Comrie was a researched and planned move. Couldn't have gone worse.

But we have a plan.

It is as yet undisclosed when playoffs are a part of the plan.

So it depends to some extent. I wonder if there's just large variance in rehabilitation post op with that one.

I'm not sure if he really choose buffalo over boston?

Maybe?

Wasnt ullmark kind of young, inconsistent and oft injured?

Didnt seem like a complete slam dunk?

I could be wrong? Most likely... 🤔

Come on paul, you're such a huge fan. And I agree with 80% of your posts.

You know we were a budget team.

You want a budget team to overpay for a guy at the beginning of a rebuild?

Someone that wasn't proven or healthy ?

I'm gonna take a break, let all you guys enjoy the afternoon. 😉

My analogy is he came into a Sh!t show and took care of Contracts because there was so much going on with Firing people that some things were kicked down the road, and he kinda got Stanked.

From what I understand we just didn't want to invest long term because of that, yeah. Adams wanted probably another 1-2yr deal and Ullmark had Boston offering 4 or 5 I forget what he got. You're not wrong that it wasn't a slam dunk at the time, this is all hindsight.

He was overwhelmed and in over his head that first summer, no question there.

He inherited a team just under fake .500 with a lot of talent. The success of many of these guys after leaving Buffalo shows it.

It's not even about this year, it's the 2 1yr contracts they dragged him through with Arbitration. If they showed some faith maybe he signs a 2 or 3yr deal back then at a cheaper Avv

If they offered reasonable starter $, I'd say 4-5 years @ 4m was easy to agree to.

Agreed, they marched him to UFA status and the driver's seat.
