You’re not. They aren’t nabbing some star player no one thinks is going to get traded.

They had two star players on their radar, both would’ve fit like gloves and they both went to eastern conference teams we will be competing with for years to come

The GM is massively over rated and is living off of Botterill’s players

- sbroads24

Tuch, Krebs, Power, Quinn, Peterka, Rosen, Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund, Levi have been accumulated through draft picks and trades by the new GM.

Not to mention having your top 2 Centers signed for a shade over $14M for the next 7 years was Adams’ idea.

The only negatives I see so far is the Samuelsson contract (unless his level of play from last year returns and this is a sophomore slump) and the fact that he’s more patient then everyone on this thread.

Other then that, not many teams set up better looking at a 3-5 year timeframe then the Sabres

Yeah even 2 more wins at home and there in the playoffs. 16 losses at home is unacceptable
- Buff36

One thing for sure... You can chalk up a loss tonight. There is no way this team is beating the Bruins....

I know the Devils are an obvious answer with how good they already are, but how about Ottawa?

They've got a 3 headed monster on defense for the next 2 years at least, and several good forwards once they're clear from injuries.

So sorry to disappoint

On March 2, 2007, in front of a sold out HSBC Arena, in the Slugs, none other than Teppo Numminen had a three-point night (1 + 2) in and 8 - 5 shootout with the Habs. The immortal David Aebischer did not have his best night in net for Montreal, allowing 7 goals on 29 shots (Thomas Vanek added an ENG). The ever-young Teppo logged 19:35 of ice time. Toni Lydman and Soupy Campbell each added two helpers and Dimitri Kalinin had a goal, giving the Sabre defense 8 points (2 + 6) on the night.
Pat Kaleta had several roughing penalties, but ran away any time someone tried to fight him. And, yes, he was wearing a visor.

Love this Ottawa team. But, I am also a huge fan of the Sabres rebuild.
Sens are not going to make playoffs. Sabres might squeak in. I hope they do. But, seriously, how many games will they win against Boston?

Buffalo will have huge cap space. This summer they will look at some very good UFA's and other elite players available in the draft.

Probably my most favourite hockey memories come out of some of the great playoff games involving Sens and Sabres. We are getting close to being able to experience them again.

Patience is a virtue.

They continue to make moves to try and improve, they're now only 2 points behind the Sabres, and they've managed to dig themselves out of a large goal deficit despite dealing with injuries.

It’s also confusing why Portillo just slipped away. We are code red on needing goalies. Does he hate Power, or did our GM sit on his hands on this one too?
- lulags

I think Portillo saw years in AHL behind UPL and fighting with Levi to make roster. To me Portillo felt he was not good enough to win those battles, so I don’t know how much that player helps, honestly. His numbers this year are not that great either.

I know we need goaltending, but on the prospect level we have a top one, we need NHL goaltending now. They will draft another (years away from NHL if ever) and stock that pool a little, but they need answers like now. He got a 3rd rounder back, that should be enough to get a goalie through trading, honestly.

My fear is the East just got 1/2 of the Wests good players. All of our competition for a playoff spot got a major upgrade. Chychrun didn’t have a clause and went for way less than sticker price.
East is stacked now. It will be an even bigger challenge to make the playoffs this and next year.
It could be mid 90’s to get a wild card spot moving forward.
We will need upgrades on defense, possibly 2
A real goalie
A winger for Cozens
Some grit and size on bottom 6

Our GM is seemingly a sleep at the wheel.
“Not willing to give up assets to rebuild” is obviously antiquated logic.

- lulags

Meier

Devil's just posted 7 on the AVS without Meier

Hard to see what teams don't improve or at least stay around the same next season

Even the rangers who most likely will lose Kane and tarasenko will still be strong

Pens may slip
Isles may too but full season of horvat will help
The sens should be better
Bruins won't have the same season they are having this year but can't see them falling off a cliff without injuries and key retirements

And most likely the teams will find ways to add and not subtract major pieces

If the sabres had any decent goalie things could be better, are there any decent free agent goalies or ones via trade?

In today's episode of laundering cap hit for picks:

So far, 3 3rd party retention deals:

-O'Reilly $76K for '25 4th
-Orlov $88K for '23 5th
-Kane $172K for '25 3rd

To summarize, appears like banking rates are:
75K-90K ='23 5th or '25 4th
175K ='23 4th or '25 3rd

Last year, FLA got 6th for $265K, so looks like some inflation

That's fine, don't blame him there. But atleast if you don't want more picks atleast make a move to make your team more Competitive.

Even the Sabres kidding, I would have liked to add to make that playoff push. Experience is invaluable which I feel would go a long way for this roster so that when they finally do entrench themselves in a spot in the future they already have a tast for playoff hockey.

To me it depends on if they can retain Debrincant and Chychrun.

But they have done a great job with drafting and developing like Buffalo has so they are up there

OK, here's my Angle on retaining ir not retaining for teams in the East. Can I blame him for those thoughts No!! But does me turning Down that 3rd or 4th for retention really hurt those teams. It's not like Arizona isn't out there. Might as well benefit from the trade to, it's not like I am gonna stop the trade by saying No.
