Is this the “it’s not the right time argument” but in two months it is the right time thing?

Playoff experience is invaluable not only to the players but the option of this team from players/ the league.

You think potential UFAs players with NTC care about the number of picks and prospects the Sabres have?

Also the Sabres have beaten nearly every team in a playoff spot this year. They’d absolutely win a game or two in a playoff series.

- ImThatGuy

don't get me wrong, if they just simply use all three 2nd round picks this year and dont trade for an upgrade on defense and/or goalie the it is an abysmal failure

but if they do make those moves in the offseason, then the plan might be fine, we are just too desperate to see a playoff series to see it

the tank was the idea that there was 2 cant miss generational players available, turns out there was only 1

balls bounce differently and the tank was a rousing success

- robz228

Well, thems the breaks, ain't they? The ball didn't bounce our way, and there wasn't a 2nd generational talent in the draft. We did, however, get rewarded with cancer. Nothing better.

In today's episode of laundering cap hit for picks:

So far, 3 3rd party retention deals:

-O'Reilly $76K for '25 4th
-Orlov $88K for '23 5th
-Kane $172K for '25 3rd

To summarize, appears like banking rates are:
75K-90K ='23 5th or '25 4th
175K ='23 4th or '25 3rd

Last year, FLA got 6th for $265K, so looks like some inflation

We don't have the Cap Space to do stuff like this.

I am beginning to wonder if other teams don’t want to use the Sabres Bank run by Mr. Darcy Adams

I can't imagine trading the only useful bottom 6F the Pens had for a contract 3x as much and 3x as useless.

As desolate as Boston's future will absolutely be, I'd kill to be in that position right now.

All going to be good for a while.

Should the Sabres just wait all these teams out?

Or should they start acting like these really good teams and realize having an abundance of picks is super overrated.

he's like a not as good skinner. pest, adaptive on offense, free roamer kind of player. doesnt play defense at all. we really don't need another one of those.

Meh how many teams have we said here were going to have a “short window” or are going to fall off a cliff and can’t remain to be good.

These teams are going to continue to be good and I’d venture it will be for a long time.

he's lost a lot of luster. Last year was a career year for him though. This year he's kinda been a liability.

detroit giving up and selling is a little strange

maybe puts it in to perspective a bit, and i think its a point schopp made that is hard to swallow

the drought means nothing to the team, only to the fans. making the playoffs this year isn't really the goal. is draft picks for chikorin really worth losing to boston in the first round, or is it better off saving assets for the offseason for a RD and a better fit instead?

i'm in bargaining stage of grief btw

- robz228

The bold is a loser mentality and no sports team should be taking that approach unless they're openly tanking, which even that I don't agree with.

They'll be good as long as they have the likes of Marchand, Pastrnak and Bergeron. Then they'll become the Islanders.

Having a great goalie seems to help at keeping a squad going.

Nobody wants to hear it. But the reality is, the idea is to get to that spot with the growing core talent we have here already. And adding to it when we can be in the same conversation as the above.

Like we've all said, there isn't too much room long term in the forward ranks. I struggled just to find a place for Rosen.

The defense can absolutely be worked on.

And the (frank)ing goalie, my god.

There are a number of Sabres fans on Twitter who want to wait until Boston, Tampa etc. are not as good.

That's big time loser talk.

The Sabres window to be good is and has been now.

They should try and act like it instead of watching every other team in the east get better.

10 teams in the east made moves to make their team better, granted some longer term moves than others.

the point is that adding what would be clearly our third best left handed defenseman would feel great right now but probably isn't actually whats best for the team

of course, this falls apart if they don't use the assets to acquire a right handed d instead

Tough hockey has a price, where do you think the Sabres 24' 1st will land in the draft?

Whats the difference in value between that pick and the gamble he can play like he did last season?

As the youngest team in the league, our window has just cracked open. Even if we sold all of our picks, we're not beating the best in the East.

If a lot of these guys continue to grow, and they will, and adjustments are made on the back end, there is absolutely no reason these guys shouldn't be going punch for punch with the eastern juggernaut throughout the season.

Bergeron probably retiring
Pasta has openly said he won't resign there while sweeney is still GM
Marchand... well he'll be there for a minute.

I mean for Bertuzzi I'm not using the Sabres 1st. That's bad asset management.

when you look at the best D cores next year.... Ottawa will be there and it could have easily been us.
