Hughes: “We don’t want to be here for a rebuild and have to wait. We’ve been playing better and our structure is better. I don’t think we’re crazy far out of competing and doing well.”

the rest of the quote from Hughes.

He's still a middle 4. He's not a top 2... prove me wrong.

Said 3 or 4 get it straight lol

Has upside still & imo better F’s & goalie to play with now to get there.

If the pundits knew anything they’d be GM’s but they are not. There are very few that I respect. They predict much but so wrong very often. They are great at after the fact articles. Low hanging fruit sells.

Asking me the same thing after I explained it to you already.

It’s pretty clear Yzerman made the deal because he has organizational depth, to replace Hronek, and gain draft equity at the same time.

If he feels like next year isn’t a competitive year, my assumption, then he’s a really smart man. He has a lot of youth on his team, he clearly has enough foresight to make moves for the future and imo he doesn’t feel pressured to be in a competitive window before he thinks they’re ready.

Your habit of disagreeing with me and then repeating what I said gets a little confusing... since you are talking about getting things straight.

- He's 20th in points in the NHL for defence
- He's 16th in goals by a defence
- 26th in shots by D
- 19th on PP points (and 41st in PP time among D)
- He's plus 8 on a team that is minus 14 (note all the PP points too)
- All while being 59th in minutes played on not a great team

I mean....seems pretty legit considering there are 32 teams....

All this smack about addressing the cap coming out of the front office. They better have a solid plan ahead because it's worse now than when they took over and I'm still hearing people blaming past management for it.

Sign Boeser to 6.65 when in cap trouble and he is trending downward... then realize he's continuing to trend downward. Change gears and fail to find a trade partner and have to turn to his agent to dig them out of the situation they put themselves in...

These guys are lost....

- boonerbuck

They are throwing sh!t against the wall to see what sticks, which is exactly what Benning did. It’s not a good situation to be in. They’ll continue to chase being competitive, it probably won’t work, at least in the immediate future, but maybe it will?

They have taken more steps in player development and the fruits of Benning's scouting prowess with either appear soon or not at all and team will keep giving away draft picks.

Well this is one move that isn't going to sort out a whole lot in the future because so much more needs to be done. They are over the cap now... and I doubt any GM out there is in a hurry to accommodate a cap dump without the Canucks giving up more picks and prospects. They don't need to simply get under the ceiling, they need to make room to bring in game changers for this 2 year plan to work... going to be a lot of picks and prospects being moved at this rate then...

Meanwhile they pissed away the first season and a half which could have been a great start for their 2 year plan if they didnt see everything so (frank)ing backwards. Benning got fired for his incompetence but they come in with the idea that his roster isnt that bad after all... and here we are at 6th last in the NHL.

Hopefully they have a plan to get it all done very quickly and in a manner that doesn't destroy the team for another decade

Hronek's injury is doing well and he should be good to go by training camp.

They found it harder than they thought talking the talk & walking the walk on cap management.

Bo out was one indicator. Buyouts probably another. Boeser push to move seems inevitable. Myers MUST be gone next offseason.

Miller stays & is a C with Petey.
Garland is being auditioned & could be on the move sooner or later. I keep Beau over him.

Kuz Petey Beau
Miky Miller Kravtsov

Dermott played 28 games for the Canucks since they made that dumb trade mid last season. Just imagine if....

There’s a lot to cleanup and they’ve gotta start somewhere. Trying to please their young players, the owner, the fans, there’s just no easy solution. Just keep slowly building away and hope for the best.

It’s funny, I’ve read today rebuilds don’t work, I’ve also read that re-tools don’t work, I’ve read that being patient and building thru the draft leads to mediocrity, that trading picks for quick fixes doesn’t work…..LOL!! (frank) me, basically no one ever wins the Cup because nothing works.

Dhaliwal saying the Canucks are trying to offload a bad contract now that may cost them an asset to do so.

Hey now.
The argument wasn't about how he'd do next year, but where he was currently.
