Sens looked real good at points in the third, just forcing turn over after turn over. Still difficutly being consistent, but they can look very good at times. |

I'm not a Talbot fan but I thought he deserved a star in this game. Chychrun looked solid with a few nice defensive plays. Tkachuk was being Tkachuk. A good overall team effort and a great 1000th game for Brassard. Couldn't have scripted it better. |

Talbot biting for at least the 2nd time on the same move by Tarasenko? Granted I could not watch the game only live look ins. Looked to me like the same old Talbot
Tarasenko did the same move when Talbot was with the Rangers ha ha |

Here is a serious question ha ha ha ha. Who is going to take the two points between Blues vs Sharks. Both teams suck and have no playoff future this season |

Dorion did a good job, picking up Chychrun. Keep your run going and you'll get in. At the first of the year, I predicted that Ottawa had a decent chance of making the playoffs. A good cast of young players and adding a top end defenseman makes it even better. It would be exciting to see them play the Bruins in round 1. The Sens would be playing with house money, getting in when others thought not a chance. These kind of teams are loose and could craft an upset. They have tools and the passion that's needed to play winning hockey in the playoffs. |

I think the Sens may be a tougher match up for Bruins than most other team.
But Bruins are very good.
This is when I need to remind myself I don't care if they make the playoffs, they just need to stay relevant.

Sens dominated in the 3rd period against what looked like a gassed Ranger's team.
This is impressive.
Sanderson 21:42 +3
Hamonic 21:15 +2
Chabot 19:21 -1
Chychrun 19:16 +1
Holden 17:56 -
Zub 17:10 - |

Fantastic Blog.
Great gutsy effort game by the Sens.
Lots of emotion from Brassard and Chycrun.
I listened to the interview with his dad on the Team. Sounds like a quality family in the Ottawa area. I have been critical of Pierre from Orleans but damn, a great move, great timing. The rebuild is essentially complete. Goaltending and some bottom 6 tinkering but.....really ....the heavy lifting is done. This is our squad people.
I am pleased.
They are a long shot to make the play offs but it's exciting hockey. They're ruining draft picks they traded away (a good thing).
I would not be against moving Talbot for a boatload of pics or prospects. Probably not gonna happen but if one of the big guns is desperate.....I'd do it.
Finally. Slightly overlooked in that game was Watson's needless destroying of former teammate Motte----who has a concussion history. Watson probably gets suspended for that one, or fined or both. YES he touched the puck, but that his wasn't neccessary. |

Let me 100% honest when I say this --- when the 2020 NHL draft took play, there was no player in that draft that I wanted other than Tim Stutzle. More than Byfield and even more than Laf. I never liked Laf as a #1 pick. My gut feeling was he was never going to live up to the hype and/or play the level of hockey he played in the Q in the NHL. I liked Lucas Raymand and Alexander Holtz A LOT because of the sweedish connection (Alfie, Karlsson) but that was months before the draft. Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson rocketed up the rankings and I'm so happy that these players came to Ottawa. Pierre Dorion has done some great things for the franchise and I think we will realize that after a few years. Here's hoping he continues the great work |

I have been saying it since summer 2022 --- top 4 d men are SO valuable. A great team with a solid Top 6 up front is not the same as a good team with a solid top 4 and an average Top 6 up front.
Teams like the NY Islanders can make the conference finals with great D (and coaching) but the affect it has on the entire team is huge imo |

Really great win last night. When you can kill off a 5-minute major and several other penalties consecutively against an offensive powerhouse, you are taking adversity head on and conquering it. Sens took advantage of the Rangers limited d-men in the 3rd. Talbot played really well. He makes me nervous with every start now, but he deserved the goggles had Brassard not have a whale of a game in his 1000th.
Saturday is a very winnable game against the Jackets. Sens must not get complacent.

Great point --- I think the Rangers are adjusting to the trades still, but killing off that 5 minute major is a really great point; and that adversity point as well. This is exactly what grows the team. My concern originally was the team wouldn't have enough support and that adding another top pick would be great, but getting a Jakob Chychrun, is like drafting a Top 5-7 pick easily. The drafting and development done by another team too.
Talbot's play should also not go under the radar and I think the same with the goggles!
Of course I want to see the Sens make the playoffs but coming together as a team, playing with structure, growing their game, fitting in with players -- these are the kind of things I'm really watching for. I think we are seeing Stutzle and Tkachuk leading the forward group by taking their games' to the next level. Those big goals and sticking with it against one of the best teams in the league; in MSG. Like you said, coming home after this crazy week, it's important to stay focused and play 1 game at a time.
I'm curious to see if Brannstrom comes back in. I really hope so OR if there's a trade that happens today. |
