The Vancouver Canucks are expected to land their second NCAA free agent of the day: Minnesota State defenseman Akito Hirose.

CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal was first to indicate mutual interest between Hirose and Vancouver, while Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman added that Hirose could join the Canucks this week. The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta notes that Hirose’s expected signing with Vancouver “has been in the works” for a few weeks.

I said we’re not falling as low as 12th. That’s not looking so good lol but still much can change. Guessed we would pick 9th or 10th. Didn’t think they would start Demko so much.

In the end it’s only Bedard lotto but could win & move up 9 or 10 spots. The higher we get the lower the 2nd pick becomes.

Is this team having fun winning no pressure games and riding a hot tender? Doesn’t look like last season. Maybe this structure is good. They play within the system and are more methodical.

This kind of play can be reproduced next season. The win factors such as health and scheduling are unknowns.

They realized the team isn’t bad enough to finish in the bottom so the draft is secondary to fixing the play and players.
