We hardly have 2nds so pun intended lol. Biggest reason why I never really go that deep into prospects. Watch the draft days but leave it til later to see how it all went. I’ve liked a few of our more recent draftees.

The MG era really took a lot of steam outta looking forward to drafts. The lethargy hangover is real. 🤪

Middle of the 1st round no sooner.
- Nighthawk

It’s been 20 years since a defenceman wasn’t selected in the draft’s top five.

“If you a find a player who can log 20-plus minutes per game… how do you not at least consider him in the top five?” asked one scout. “Reinbacher may be a minute muncher. He’s already playing 20 minutes a night in a fast pro league, and he’s more than holding his own.”

What’s most apparent at this point is that if you polled NHL scouts today, the majority of them would list Reinbacher or Axel Sandin-Pellikka at the top.

Boldy with his 26th tonight, so glad they picked Podkolzin #bust
- LeftCoaster

We could have picked glass instead of petey or zadina instead of Hughes and I remember in Demkos draft other teams fans were pushing to snag him at the end of the first round. I had no idea who he was but I remember that.

Seravelli; it's great that Tocchet has implemented some structure, but it rarely carries over.

Make that another hat trick for Boldy... had one just a couple of games ago I think.

Your example just seems odd.

Boldy isnt tracking anything like Horvat. Horvat has only reached that kind of production in the last couple of seasons. This is Boldy's sophomore season and he's on fire. 21 years old...

So many ifs would have to happen for your scenario to play out 50/50 in trade value... Like Podz being instrumental in cup wins etc. Boldy has 43G, 53A, 96P in 120 games at 21 y/o.

Anyways, I'm talking now and not in the back half of their career after one of them has won a couple of cups as a role player who stood out. What GM is going to take Podz today over Boldy because he may end up being the next Nuchushkin in a cup run in 6 years...

- boonerbuck

I don’t waste time and energy on what ifs and following the prospect that we missed on it just feeds negative energy and can’t think properly as it adds up if a person keeps adding to it.

Hypothetically say we draft Reinbacher and he's good enough to play bottom pair.

Sign Gavrikov

Myers gets traded after we pay his bonus to a team who needs to hit the cap floor. 6 mill hit 1 mill actual money so he will be movebale forsure.

OEL they're going to try to rehab him I'm sure but is this de middle of the pack

Hughes Bear
Gavrikov Hronek
Oel Reinbacher
Wolanin Brise Juulson etc

Maybe Bear is gone

Also Quinn Hughes deserves norris consideration. Yes he is that good. They own the ice when he's on.

Oh man Dumba is a Ufa. Sign gav and dumba lol

If he goes top 5 then he’s gone before our pick. I’m just saying I see him as a solid good middle 1st. 12-15th pretty much. We want D but no 2nd pick sucks & if the 1st is a top 6 C so be it. Use next picks on D & keep developing the ones we have also. I’m hoping a trade or 3 gets us maybe a 2nd and more picks.

Bear is a bottom pair dman. I like Gavrikov, seems like a sharp signing if they can afford it. Dumbs we can’t afford.

Ben Hutton is on the top pair on Vegas. They are the 4th best team in the league. Not a big deal but your wrong lol. Quinn is good enough to make most people he plays with way better. Doesn't need to be bear at all but Quinn will.make someone a bunch of money and that pair will be fine

I'd also like to move from Bear though as well. Dumba would be nice inagree we can't afford him unless Boeser or Garland are gone maybe both

Rather start with Gavrikov anything else is gravy if the cap. Doubt it so run the pairings you had.

My unpopular radical move is OS Byram 5/6.3m. Av’s up tight against the cap. Forces their hand or we get him costing us a 1st & 3rd. If they match then the Av’s have cap challenges with MacKinnon’s big raise kicking in & many other UFA’s to resign.

So taking all my dreamy crazy wishes & Vantel’s OEL buyout the D & roster could look like this. Cap left for bonuses. More still is leftover to go with 2024/25 increase to resign Petey & Hronek & maybe Beauvillier once Myers expires. Below shows the roster & the cap & future years.

https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/team/4076113

1st David Reinbacher or Oliver Moore

Now this is a huge stretch of the imagination but there is ways to retool in a big hurry. Comes down to trades for cap space then onto the real big fun.

Rebuild or retool but make changes is at least that’s something everyone wants.

The Canucks will have to get creative as their cap is problematic. That means LTIR retire, buyouts and trades. This could hurt their chances to make meaningful upgrades.

Pointless to even mention rebuild.

Why or how does it hurt their chances?

I’ve met Gillis a few times (I’m sure you will call me full of sh!t), he is extremely unlikable. That’s a big reason he doesn’t have a job imo

Depending on who is drafting where but if he is viewed at even a #2 defender, he would be gone probably 5-6-7.

Everybody wants cap space but all that is usually talked about is adding after, with the cap space they have now got.

For some reason, fans look at the following season only, not the seasons that follow.

The Canucks have a big contract coming up, that is easily starting with a 9, possibly up to 11, so they, management, have to keep that in mind, when dealing with any free-agent signings, trades etc.

They, fans, can't go assuming on a buyout or someone being on LTIR, or that the cap will increase by several million.
