Stopped caring after that pick was traded.

I guess this is also one of your 20 teams that are doing it right...

Bo should get better. His slumps usually only last about 20 games or so.

Is Ethan Bear a top-4 Defenceman? 🤔

Sam Malinski to the Avalanche

Livingstone to the Predators.

Other than maybe TJ Hughes and Colin Graf both whom could go back to college for a couple more years, most of the other prized free agents are able to sign already so maybe Hirose and Sasson are all Van is going after.

Watching lots of Swedish playoffs. I think I'd like Jakob Stenqvist over Hardy Häman Aktell(if Canucks were to go after a euro free agent D). Same age but Stenqvist's game looks to translate more to the NHL game imo.

They need to add more depth at D. The farm needs those guys now. I don’t see anyone ever making it to Canucks top 4 but hey that’s why they overpay NHL UFAs.

I will say it over and over, bringing back OEL proves the new management have no clue of what they are doing.

Wasting that much cap on a player that is terrible at defending and selling off two top forty draft picks in the same year 2023 is asinine.

Well generally speaking you need to draft D high to get the best chance for top 4 D especially top 2. Possible to draft/develop later round D usually being more 1 dimensional either offensive or defensive. We need defensive obviously. A #4 D isn’t all that rare to develop it’s very difficult for top 3. Drafting mobile good on turns & a 1st pass D is every teams goal. That imo is depth D if not weak on defensive play.

Do we have any of those?

Woo is still a project. Johanssson is progressing well. There is our RHD prospect pool. Not very inspiring. LHD prospects we’ve a mixture that might be solid NHLers but mostly are offensive types. They’ve got much to improve on before a chance at 3rd pairing or depth. D take time & Mgmt wants PO’s sooner than later. So UFA’s seem to be highly likely to fill the gap.

The price for Hronek is one thing. OEL’s anchor is another entirely. Imo OEL needs a lesser role & not leaned on as much. Pretty sad for 7.26m but has to be. He’s pretty good on points without PP1 TOI. Focus has to be on less 5v5 match ups on ops top line.

Well I don't separate the two. I think you either fix the team or you continue building the future. You do not (not) fix the team and throw away the future IMO.

You have to choose one direction (Waits for Shuswap to post Harry Styles meme).

I don’t separate the 2 either just saying that’s the approach Mgmt has taken. OEL was a legacy that is probably impossible to get out from under of. It is a separate issue we all agree we wish undone. He’s not getting bought out. Best hope is change his role & create SOME value. The pump n dump & hope a TDL move. Not likely though. His contract is not on JR/PA just their nightmare to deal with.

3rd pairing & PK & hope he excels.
Gavrikov will enable that.
Graves for some but pricier.

OEL has to come to camp with a chip on his shoulder.

Flyers vs Senators at 4PM Pacific time tonight, should be a good one. I know y'all will be watching that one!! Flyers should easily win the lotto now that Bettman has seen the changes Comcast finally made.

If the plan with current management is to be competitive, then buying out OEL makes perfect sense. I believe it's an 8 million dollar cap savings next year, or something like that. They can hypothetically get some defensemen who can defend better, the caveat is those dmen have to want to come to Vancouver. It's always a two-way street in that regard.

Carson Soucy, Damon Severson and Dmitry Orlov are all decent players, they can spend that money on two of them instead of one OEL. My God, Benning, that has to be one of the worst trades in NHL history....just pathetic that guy was!!!

It's true, OEL will hopefully be embarrassed and come in angry. If we can even get 3M of value out of him it's better than 8 year buy out :S or adding a good asset to get rid of him (which he wouldn't approve anyways)

Yup. It’s all about motivation on OEL’s part & Mgmt gets in his ear that 7.2m needs better value. It’s not nicey nicey time it’s buck up time. The teams direction demands this & his contract says so.
