They didn’t trade their own first round draft pick, important! They traded a first round pick they acquired by trading a pending UFA. FINALLY! Still a first round pick, yes, but they acquired a young NHL right shot dman, an organizational need, with it.

This is beyond funny. For years you have b1tched about needing more picks. I can't think of anyone who is close to complaining about acquiring more draft picks.

Again, they have picked a direction but your early disdain for them won’t let you admit it. They’re not rebuilding, they’re gonna be as competitive as they can and continue to change things until they get it right. Remains to be seen if they ever do.

You know, as things have unfolded throughout the year I can see a clearer picture now. The Miller contract makes more sense now, he’s a different player under Tocchet, future remains to be judged, the firing of Boudreau makes more sense now, they’re defending much better now, future remains to be seen. The Horvat trade and subsequent trade for Hronek makes more sense now that they are clearly wanting to be as competitive as they can. Next season is a hugely important one for the organization and management group.

You are a sucker. Miller was a different player under Bruce last year once green was fired(who coaches structure)... The best season of his career then he wasn't now he is again. Maybe it's not the coaches at all... evidence points towards it being simply.... Miller.

Wonder which brand of Miller we get next season? So far we have had Miller High Life, Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft...

It’s not funny, it’s me accepting the reality of the situation. I’ve said many times I want them to rebuild and use those picks, but that isn’t happening. Using a late first round pick they acquired, by trading a pending UFA, to get a young right shot dman to support their guys is at least palatable considering they still have their own first rounder. Two birds with one stone. But you keep complaining, they aren’t rebuilding, let it go.

I hope it’s the current one, who’s been a much improved player under Rick Tocchet.

I bet if this was Benning trading the first round pick and second you would be throwing the computer out the window, even though for years they said they were not rebuilding.

Like I said same mistakes being repeated but I am thrilled we didn't finish bottom seven and get the higher pick. The bubble is much more respectable.

You are right three first round players for Ballard was horrible. Didn't Michael Grabner score 34 goals and 27 goals? Bernier made it to the cup finals while Ballard did Ballard things?
- VANTEL

That was a terrible trade.

Grabner... what a (frank)ing disaster that trade turned into. He didnt only end up scoring a pile of goals, he ended up turning into a good two way player later in his career. All the things AV thought were never going to happen. Never gave the kid a chance. Even after he had a 4 goal game in the preseason... still couldn't see him helping the team. Wanted nothing to do with him...

Gillis sucked at trading. And drafting. And negotiating contracts. And being likeable. Sort of explains why he never got hired again.

Depends on the circumstances, I was ok with the first rounder for Miller. I continually kept wanting the Canucks to rebuild under Benning but he was so directionless I never knew what he was doing.

I know what the plan is with these guys, at least I think I do now, whether I agree with it or not. If they’re not going to rebuild then like I said, as long as they don’t trade our own first rounder I can deal with it.

this is why no one can take you serious because your takes are ridiculous. Ballard made it to the Cup finals his first year with the Canucks in 2011 lol! It’s a common practise for teams who deem themselves a contender to trade a first round pick and or young prospects or players to fill a need. It ended up being a fail, yes.

Look at the Giroux trade Florida made last year on their way to the coveted President’s Trophy, Owen Tippett is playing wonderfully for the Flyers and they have Florida’s 2024 first round pick. The Panthers lost in the first round.

Keith Ballard

Played 10 games in the run. ZERO points, -4, 6 PIM.

In the 65 games that season, he had 7 points. Was a defensive nightmare... a joke. He was also a low life with the low hits that would cost the Canucks more than help...

Oh hell ya... Lefty would lose his poop big time if Benning traded two top 40 picks away for a middle aged Dman about to get a big raise.

Aquilini has been interfering forever. As we talked about yesterday he is business first.

I really do support some of the moves but like I keep saying don't half fix things. We all get that a rebuild will not happen.

IF? Not likely JB could ever trade & take on cap he never had after preseason. Gotta have the 2nd pick which he never had. As for D getting a big raise…Myers. Lest we forget that marvellous 7.26m add?

Maybe you miss the point in teasing Lefty with his flip flopping on trading high picks and promising prospects who were also 1st round picks.

Gillis good move(was a fail)

JB bad move(was a fail)

RT good move(was a(time will tell))

If it fails for this management, you can count on the endless posts from Lefty "like I've always said, it's never a good idea blah blah blah".

I know what a retool is .

They were never rebuilding? Maybe I misunderstood Rutherford's press conference about we need to rebuild. Silly me.

Major surgery is not bringing back OEL. That is called repeating same mistakes.
