Past two games, Sabres have an xG differential of +0.86.
That's right. Their possession and shot metrics have exceeded both teams. And yet they lost 3-14. - TheSabresTaco

Petition the NHL. Get ‘em to give us wins for the last two - Hatboro_Swords
I won't say it's weird that we lost both games cause it isn't.
We've had bad puck luck and peewee goaltending. These games shouldn't be nearly as embarrassing as they have been.

All scores, the Sabres skaters dominated the Predators skaters. Trailing they were just as strong. Unfortunately they were trailing most of the game so it's hard to draw a conclusion.
Other than every chance against went into the (frank)ing net.

All strengths, Craig's xGA was 2.07. He allowed 2 high danger goals. Which, ok, but what about the other 4. (frank)ing muffins.
Sabres tightened up their game once UPL was put in.
He had xGA of 0.98 all situations so he actually came out plus, for once. Went 5/5 on high danger shots. |

The defense was shoddy, as you could see before I stopped watching that display.
But Craig did his best UPL impression last night. His xGA 5v5 was 1.64
1.64
1.64.

How much blame should the goalie coach get?
If they are as analytical as they say, they’ll realize all of their goaltenders are performing like poop and prob should move on from whomever it is. |

I am fine with UPL backing up Levi. Unfortunately it will be another year of growing pains before that happens. |

I am a sports nut. In order from bottom to top, I am MLB, NFL, NHL, Hockey always has and always will do it for me.
I have been watching this team since the late 70's and I mean if I can help it I don't miss a game. I am loyal to Buffalo Sports.
I will tell everyone this. if GMKA does not get a MF Goalie for the next 2 years, I am done. I am sick and tired of watching crap goaltending. Yes I knew going into the year that Andy, Commie & UPL were not going to be good but the numbers these guys have put up this year is just fooking embarrassing, yes Defense has a lot to do with it, But far and away these goalies are just BAD.

Wouldn't surprise me to see if the Bills sign Edwards that they might go after Hopkins. Bills sign Edwards then Bates can move to C and McGovern and Edwards are your starting G's. Releasing Morse and extending DaQuan 1yr would free up about 12- 14m and that's your money for Hopkins on a reworked Contract Extension for him. Well other than the Comp. |

There are 45 goalies with 10+ games played this season with a positive goals saved above expected rating. The Sabres employ one of these. The other two are ranked 88th and 92nd OA (all goalies).

I'm not really a fan of Jeudy, but I'd rather look at this idea and acquire Jeudy for Oliver, trade down from the 1st round and fill in the lines with 3 day two picks.

This is where the metric is flawed, though. The difference between the Bruins/Predators and the Sabres in both games wasn't so much that they weren't getting good chances, but they weren't getting good 2nd and 3rd chances. Once the initial shot/chance was taken, both opponents cleared things away, Boston especially. In Buffalo's end, when Boston did get their chances, which were likely lower because they were coming off a game the night before, they were getting 2, 3, even four cracks at it before a Buffalo player even got in a position to even make an excuse for a difference. This is inevitable when you have an entire forward group that either can't or just simply doesn't play defense. On most nights, this season, they've been able to get away with it because they have been scoring at a ridiculous pace. Now that teams have figured them out, the strain on the back end it causes has been badly exposed. |

My post didn't list the whole story, but take from it what you will. There's a lot more going on than simple possession and shot numbers.
All I'm trying to say is that they are still driving offense, with much lower success than earlier in the season, and their goalies are embarrassing the team.
I don't believe it's a matter of "figuring them out". All teams are scouted. They all know how each other plays. But the Sabres have not been the 22-23 Sabres the past month. |

But does this mean the goalies suck or the team defense sucks? Or both? |
