It's far too early to tell what kind of career Knies will have.

He has an interesting toolset, has good numbers in the NCAA...

I'm not convinced he's gonna be able to step in a major role already this spring but it's fair to be happy to have him in your prospect pool.

For the record, I'm in favour of traffic enforcement for cars and cyclists as well. Right now there is effectively no law enforcement at all for traffic other than parking.

You couldn’t pay me enough to bike in city. Way too much cell phone use for my liking.

He is also not alone in his opinion.
- Aetherial

Fantastic

I am not alone in my opinion of him either

Or you, but who the (frank) cares. I would hope you do not care what I think of you

If they lose to Canisius I don't want the loser bum on this team.

I doubt many cities are really safe for cyclists.

I checked their roster.

They are all 23-24 year olds and not a single drafted NHL player

They are basically equivalent to a Laurier, Guelph, ect facing up against legit NHL prospects. It would be hilarious if they won though.

Don't think he is known as a real fighter though no?

I'm more worried about him causing that goal in our end.
- Atomic Wedgie

Yes that’s the other thing. But we’re due for something good to happen, aren’t we?

Most major cities, i would agree. Although Ottawa is a cyclist/walk friendly city in my opinion. However, its not on the same scale as Toronto

Funny. I wish Montreal had that mindset with Caufield He thrived and we crumbled so it would be nice to have the switch flipped to our side.
- Santo_44

Caufield was more dominant in the NCAA than Knies though.

And let's be honest, he didn't have much competition in the "guy that can (frank)ing score" department.

Not in Canada, that’s for sure. It’s pretty hard to change a world that was built around the automobile.

5'7".

Two different players.

I am also not expecting him to be what Caufield was for the Habs that playoffs. Would be sweet though.

But I do not agree with the mindset of writing him off. The kid will be given every opportunity to play.

And he will either be playing or watching from the press box because he can't play in the AHL after he plays in the NHL this season.

And the habs had no pressure to win at the time. Unlike the jupiter sized ball of pressure the leafs have on their shoulders to win one round.

So very different circumstances imo

It is not ideal at all. Getting around Toronto is very problematic on bikes, in cars, on transit and by foot. Unless you have a helicopter, you're gonna have a hard time.

Caufield has that rocket of a shot. It can hide a lot of warts that a typical young player might have.

I just don't know why I'm considered a pessimist when I state that a kid who's never played an NHL game shouldn't be dropped into a pressure cooker of an NHL playoff series, where the "serious monkey on their backs in the 1st round Maple Leafs" will go up against a team that has won 9 series in the past three years.
- Atomic Wedgie

I don't get it either. People are convinced the Leafs, as a top 5 team in the league built around superstars in their prime, have no chance whatsoever.

On the other hand, they seem to have unbridled optimism about Knies. I think the Leafs winning the Cup this year is more likely than Knies getting an NHL point in the playoffs.

Toronto is definitely getting better. I ride home a lot up Yonge Street - the cycle lanes make it pretty safe.

I was blown away by the cycle network in Vancouver. Miles ahead of us (pun intended). Truly a great place to ride around (and to jog around, too).

I haven’t lived in Toronto since the eighties and at that time I thought the transit system was terrific. But even then there was a traffic expert who was sounding the alarm because of the projected growth. I don’t remember his name but apparently he was the guy who coined the phrase “ Grid Lock “

I have a membership to the Toronto Bike Share.

It's actually a pretty convenient way to zip around downtown Toronto. If I have to run an errand at lunch, just hop on, hop off as needed.

Bay and University are relatively safe to ride on.

Yonge above Bloor is a designated bike lane - it's heaven.
