Sandin simply said he stayed with his mom and thats why he wasnt at camp and the leafs were understanding of that.
- Fakepartofme

“To be honest, my head wasn’t (in Toronto). For me, family comes first. My head wasn’t in hockey to go back to Toronto to sign a contract (in June),” Sandin said. “It was important to have my mom’s back.”

You can't stand being wrong and its hilarious

Interesting article on Sandin on the athletic.

I remember a lot of us, leaf fans all around getting mad at Sandin for not signing a contract until training camp.

Turns out his mother was battling cancer and he chose to put family first to stay in Sweden and be with her over signing a contract. Some on the Leafs didnt even know this.

Just shows that us fans need to shut the (frank) up sometimes when we complain about a player not signing, signing, playing bad. Sometimes there is a reason beyond them just playing bad or not putting pen to paper fast enough for us.

- Santo_44

(frank) busteen and the horse he rode in on🤦‍♂️

he’s soft as slime🤦🏿‍♂️

he reminds me of gunnarssen (with whom i rode an elevator in tampa)🤦‍♂️

i’m starting to think that kylie needs to get rid of all of these europussies and fill his backend with good North American bois👍🏿

he’ll have time to think about it on the greens after the first round 🤦‍♂️

what a (frank)ing joke 🤦🏿‍♂️

edit:nice alliteration 👍

He should fire his agent or be thankful he's in Washington where something this trivial as a 6/7 yougn defenseman not signing early is not headline news.
- AdamFrench

This is true. The only misgiving I have about this story is that Dubas has been exceptionally player-focused throughout his tenure here - doing the right things to attract and keep talent on the Leafs. If the agent didn't tell the GM, that would be lunacy. If he did, it doesn't make sense that Dubas wouldn't have cooled the fire simply by saying that Sandin was dealing with some personal issues and that the contract would be handled in due time.

Says the Leafs knew, and that he has no idea how many Leafs players knew about it.

Maybe Sandin asked for silence on it, who knows. Sometimes its easier to take a few twitter punches from clueless fans than get a bunch of texts from players and staff about it.

Wrong about what? He could sign a contract anywhere anytime.

He is dressing for the Leafs this season, regardless of if anyone thinks he will be a leaf in playoffs.

That part is quite obvious. Unless he gets injured in the NCAA and that means he plays no where.

- Santo_44

Maybe, maybe not.
Going on a run with the Marlies with less pressure might be better for his development.
But dubas will decide if he hasnt already.

He did not want to sign a contract because of his mother.

Of course he could sign a contract anywhere anytime.

He said he was not ready to sign a contract in June because of his mother. His own words ffs.

Not because he was being greedy and thought he was better than Liljregren which most fans said including me.

If he plays with the Marilies only does that still burn a year of his ELC?

If not I'd much prefer he just do that, I just don't see him being enough of an impact player in a Leaf playoff run that would justify the loss of a year of his ELC cost.

Burning a year could be good.

Less money on a longer term contract

And you can think that, would be silly to not give him a shot

Plus I am sure he is hungry for the opportunity...to not even give him a game would be silly

Also he is a NCAA prospect, he can go back to school for a few years and become a free agent. Just give the kid a shot ffs, he deserves it

You’ve become a contrarian man. Whatever opinion gets voiced in here you can be counted on to argue the opposite.

No, its the point ive always had.
Didnt think knies would get tossed into the fire of a leafs playoff run unless injuries required him to do so.
Not contrarian at, just a different opinion, which is ok.
Oh and others seem have a similar one.
But you do you.
