It's up to the GM to put the team in position to tank. Mistake #1 was hiring Torts. Once you made that hire you were playing for more mediocrity and not a draft slot. IMO it is dumb. What difference does it make if team gets 75 points this yr over 55. Those saying this late season winning is good for next year have short memories. How many times has this team done that only to suck next yr. Only was to expedite getting out of mediocrity is to get high end talent. In the draft it is usually at the very top - hfc355
They didn't finally decide they were "rebuilding" until after the TDL.
As fans, why do we keep choosing to do this to ourselves? It'd be easier to just stop watching hockey. |

And you're right about Torts. He was the wrong coach to hire if you were truly going into tank mode cause he's the type of coach you bring in to change the identity. I think this team needs that cause I have questioned their competitive nature for quite sometime now. We shall see how it plays out. I just can't turn on a Flyers game and root for them to lose. I just wouldn't watch if I really wanted them to lose. It's nice to see them play hard for the first time in a decade! |

Some people can't see the forest for the trees. Is the goal to win meaningless games in March and April or to win the Stanley Cup? I'm glad to see the kids finish strong but management should have put them in a position to improve but lose games. There's a very consistent formula for winning the Stanley Cup after the salary cap came into being and the Flyers aren't following it. Does it guarantee success? No, many have failed but it has proven the only way to create a consistent cup contender. So do you give up and cheer for a team playing for pride in march every year because it doesn't hurt anyone's feelings or do you want to face reality in what it takes to win a cup?
Part of that would've been admitting they were in a rebuild in the offseason and instead of throwing draft picks and term and modified NTCs to players like ND and TDA they should've been selling off pieces that don't fit long term. They had a chance at the deadline and failed again which is why the overwhelming majority wanted CF to go.
You might as well be cheering for the Arizona Coyotes if you are happy that players on entry level contracts win a few games and some marginal vets go on a hot streak at the end of the season.
The Flyers will be buyers at next season's deadline if it doesn't go completely off the rails because commitment is not something they do until proven otherwise.
I also think those who expect Briere to sell of young players at the draft will be disappointed. Just a feeling but if they finish the season strong there will be a "we really aren't that bad vibe" in the front office. Just my opinion. |

It's the right move IMO for both the player and the organIzation. - MBFlyerfan
It is and it acknowledges the rebuild. Where they will pick this year, that player will need at least a year. If they’re lucky and that is true, both Cutter and that pick will hit the ice 2025 season, 1-2 season to acclimate and hit their stride. They already have 2 first in 2024, add more picks if you can and we will see you in 26-27

You are 100% right. At end of year it will be we were a top 10 team the last 6 weeks...4th most improved team in the NHL...if it weren't for the Couts, Atkinson and other injuries we would have been right there. Rinse repeat. Agree with you font see them making the trades they should make for needed draft picks/prospects. Only one I see being traded is Provorov |

With the teams long term injuries right out of the gate, it was apparently clear after the first two months of the season, this team was not going to compete with the lineup they were throwing out on a nightly basis. I’ve been on record before about playing the youth. Younger players could have been playing after the New Year. So what, if their mistakes cost a game or two on Jan 10th or Feb 10th. Serves a duel purpose, them gaining experience and an extra loss here and there to help in the standings. This way it doesn’t give the appearance of an obvious tank job. After doing nothing to help the team at the deadline, why were we holding out for maximum return on players, could have moved them earlier to make room for the youth. |

So being that this is officially a rebuild do you think they trade Konecny in order to gain more assets for the rebuild?
If they can pry a couple of kids from the LA kings I'd strongly consider it.
Konecny may be a piece to put LA over the top in the west next season |

What’s more likely getting the # 1 pick, or drafting 8th and coming away with yet another (frank)ing stiff? - PLindbergh31
judging by our history we'll get another stiff
remember awhile back if we had just lose a few more game we could have had seth jones instead of morin but people rather suck for decades and lose a few games short term for better players |
