He played FANTASTIC our last 2 reg season games. Seems like Lindy is trying to play it safe by keeping a 19 year old out. (frank) that wussy move!!! Play this (frank)ing kid! Then why waste a year of his ELC? That’s so (frank)ing dumb. If that’s the reason to keep him out, then we just walked him to UFA 1 year sooner so he could play in 2 games after we’ve already clinched. If it wasn’t for losing a year off his contract, I wouldn’t bring it up. But GM’s have to be EXTREMELY economic with player years. It makes absolutely no sense to waste this time.

I would agree that it's dumb, if not for the fact that literally every single team does it with top prospects, especially guys who play in the NCAA. It was always going to be this way with him. It's just how it is. Nothing to get worked up over. Also, it has no affect on his UFA eligibility, it does NOT walk him 1 year closer to free agency. And just to clarify, the games played doesn't matter. He burned the first year the moment pen hit paper and he signed the contract. Him playing 2 games is/was irrelevant.

Plus, to put a positive spin on it, the experience he is getting (albeit an extra skater for now) during the playoffs is invaluable. Just sharpens his pencil prior to when he hits the ice fulltime next season.

I think what's being lost in all of this is that there are different RFA groups that are based on service time/age. This only burns a year off of his ELC but doesn't change his RFA group status.

Fox's penalty is a game management penalty so if we keep engaging like this they'll do the same and send us to the box. I don't see how we keep putting one of the league's elite powerplays on the ice consistently for nothing. What are they actually trying to leverage with this type of play in the first place.

Exactly. Lindy is trying to match our strengths against their strengths instead of getting scoring lines out against their bottom lines and exploiting. It's not like Gallant is doing anything special here either, because he just packs the middle of the ice 5v5 and lets his goalie figure out single shot and killing the play.
