He is from California and he can go home and play, he can also sign with the sabres when he becomes a free agent. Why sign now when you can wait and decide then? If it was me I think free agency would be the best thing. That being said it does feel like it was handled poorly.

He is from California and he can go home and play, he can also sign with the sabres when he becomes a free agent. Why sign now when you can wait and decide then? If it was me I think free agency would be the best thing. That being said it does feel like it was handled poorly.

Was it handled poorly if Johnson demanded to play NHL games this year so he could burn a year of his ELC - and Adams said no?

IMO, I would rather take the 2nd (if Johnson doesn't sign) and use that 2024 2nd as part of a trade to get a Top 4 RHD that will help us in 23/24.

I would think that Johnson’s agent knows that the rookie contract is pretty much the same regardless of where he signs.

He should be looking for a team that needs one or two defenseman at the NHL level.

And if possible find one of those needy teams that is good or could be good soon.

If only that situation was somewhere out there. That’s where Johnson’s advisors should point him.
