What? Why? - kingcong39
Because it’s a numbers game, and Peterka is probably the very top end of the list of “not untouchables”. Trade bait might be too strong a term maybe?

A talented Buffalo Sabres prospect might be leaving the organization after just a year in North America. Klaus Zaugg of Swiss news outlet Watson reports that Lukas Rousek could be headed back to Europe, and has been identified by HC Ambri-Piotta as a potential replacement for former Ottawa Senator Filip Chlapik. Rousek, a 2019 sixth-rounder, had an impressive 2022-23 season for the Rochester Americans, scoring 56 points in 70 games. It was a major improvement from the four points in 19 games he posted last season and is more in line with how he played.

I hope Sabres fans don’t turn into what bills mafia has become on twitter.
It’s an utter trainwreck on billsmafia twitter.

Whyyyyy in the world would the Sabres do such a dumb thing?
Adams have proven over the last year. The kids are not for sale. He openly said it about the coyotes / Chychrun at the deadline
I will say. All of our prospects might not make it. We don’t have enough room on an nhl roster for all of them.
But they aren’t trading a player with 2 years of professional hockey experience - Sabretooth9
As you said, there's not room for everyone. Waiting and selling whoever falls out of favor isn't a great recipe. Next to go is likely VO, and his value seems pretty low.
We know how much they love Savoie and Kulich. Assume Quinn isn't going anywhere. If they extend Mitts, suddenly your middle 6 is packed. This could boil down to Mitts or JJ. |

All they've shown to date is they love all their prospects, even if it is sometimes to their detriment.
Not sure trying to assign levels of love is worth doing based on whatever crumbs are available publicly. |

Well said.
Can't just keep everyone already started last season and he seemed to have a very difficult time with it.

There's a clear opening for some, but that is only if they do very little.
Moving Olofsson out means a spot for Savoie in the top 9, as long as they keep Greenway on the 4th line.
If they're adamant about Greenway being something more than he is, then there's likely no spot for Savoie this coming season.
If they extend Mittelstadt too, the only way there's a spot for either of Savoie or Kulich is if they move out others, like Krebs for example.
Unless they just plan on keeping Savoie (when he's eligible) and Kulich in the minors until they're no longer waivers exempt, which is right around the time Tuch's contract will be up. |

From a talent/value perspective is what that meant. Krebs is also certainly on that list. |

What are you using them in a trade for?
If it's a player like Elias Pettersson, I'm in.
If not, or close to that like Jesper Bratt, not sure I'm as interested in shipping either of Peterka or Krebs out. |

The way I view it is that moving VO doesn't open a spot because he wasn't in the lineup.
Curious to see what he can pull off. Deferring another year on anything significant is an option, but a bit deflating. Last season was a missed opportunity. You have to find a way to improve this summer. |

Somehow sign Varlamov and Severson, and do virtually nothing else, aside from bringing back Okposo, Jost, and Girgensons at forward.
I can easily see that being the summer, if even that. |

Even doing that means moving/waiving D and G's. Feel like they need to make a move before UFA starts. |

The last thing I would ever consider myself is a koolaid drinker.
I’ve been very realistic with my expectations since day 1 on this website.
You mock me for saying “All-In” yet say Adams whiffed on players that would have costed multiple players and picks. Would that not be going all in from a pick and asset perspective ?
Meier is an RFA this offseason, Chychrun had two years of term.
Debrincant has a $9M qualifying offer that walks him right to UFA if Ottawa can’t get him signed long term. Meanwhile Kasper, Korchinski, or Savoie could have been a Senator for the next 10 years.
All the incessant moaning and complaining and I doubt people will even care two years from now when they are watching a perennial contender.
Powerslave comes back from a hiatus and pretty much called everything that’s happened since he’s been gone, says a lot. - Swedish_Jesus
Some of us are done deferring to the future all the time. Sorry |

Rosen Ostlund the Russian kid. We have others that can be used as trade bait
Peterka is going to be top 6 good. Like Quinn. Who move that

Yea it gets very subjective here, but 100% should only trade them in packages for established players that are clear upgrades. We have a bunch of 7-8’s, and we need a 9-10 or two. Pettersson would be an obvious yes. You know I’m a big Tom Wilson fan too. I’d love him on Cozens wing. |

It’s weird to hear the Sabres having high expectations for greenway next year. I don’t think he’s had a single shift as a Sabre to inspire any belief or trust in. |

I'm terrified of trading for Wilson, as it would mean giving up meaningful assets and signing him to an extension that starts when he's 30.
The idea of how he would play when he's 33 and older is very scary for a player with his style.
Could easily be a Lucic contract. No thanks. |
