Do you not understand playing a game in the NHL this year burns a year on his ELC contract getting him to UFA 1 year sooner?

If he gets a game this year in the NHL it burns a year of his ELC thus becoming a free agent 1 year sooner and getting UFA money.

If he is a 6th defender thats 2 million dollars. If he is a top 4 that could be 5 million.

If he doesn't sign and plays in Rochester he doesn't burn a year on his ELC.

By free agent, do you mean UFA or RFA?

Big difference between those two. Very big.

Yup, so it looks like if he signs its to play in Rochester OR he can go play where he wants anywhere in the NHL.

Wonder what his agent is saying.

It doesn’t matter anymore. The season ended yesterday. whenever (if)he signs his contract whether that be today or six weeks from now it won’t matter.

The thing is playing a game and burning a year could mean an extra 2-5 million dollars depending on how good RyJo is.

Anyone dismissing that is just a fool. Its either he wants to go to free agency and play with his daddy or sign in Minnesota. The only advantage playing for Buffalo is to burn a year of his free agency eligibility.

Why would he still sign after giving up millions of dollars by becoming a free agent one year sooner?

Pat Brisson is his advisor. Brisson isn't gonna give up millions to go to Rochester.

Do you HAVE to sign a 3 year ELC?

Depends on the age of the player
.
WHAT IS AN ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT?

Players under 25 years of age must sign a two-way entry-level contract for their first NHL contracts.

These contracts follow the NHL minimum salary guidelines, but they also have a maximum salary of $925,000.

For players between age 18-21, entry-level contracts must be for three years. Players aged 22-23 must sign two-year contracts. Players aged 24 must sign one-year contracts.

For top unsigned players coming out of college, it essentially means that salary is a non-factor, as teams will offer the maximum $925,000 to be considered.

Not gonna happen…. But. Sign ato today go play in Rochester. Wait to sign ELC till after his birthday on July 24. 2 year deal.

Not even sure if that would be possible

He can still sign with the sabres is just means his contract starts next year.

Seems like poor management by his agent.

If he wants to go play with his father I think thats Anaheim. We will see what happens.

I think he is dumb because there is a roster spot for him already.

UFA.

Group 6 UFA

A player becomes a Group 6 UFA if they are 25, completed 3 or more professional seasons, has a contract expiring, and has played less than 80 NHL Games. For goalies, this is 28 NHL games with more than 30 minutes of ice time.

A Professional Season is defined as any season where a player aged 18-19 plays in 11 or more Professional Games, and a player 20 or older plays 1 or more Professional Games. A Professional Game is a regular season or playoff game in the NHL, minor league (AHL/ECHL), or European professional while under an NHL contract.

- sabresfan69

You think he will have played less than 80 NHL games over the next 4 seasons?

That's the only way he qualifies for Group 6 per what you posted.

It probably would make sense but his father is out west and why would he not burn a year of his contract to play with Buffalo?

He has no reason to sign with Buffalo except to burn that year of his ELC.

Does he feel some sort of loyalty to Buffalo? Probably not.

Is there really though? Stillman, Bryson, Joker all signed through next year.

I doubt he makes it out of camp. They definitely want him to go through Roch.

Ya its confusing I am trying to read over the rules.

If he turns 22 he only has to sign a 2 year ELC and not a 3 year ELC.

He turns 22 in July but he becomes a free agent on August 15th.

So does he become a free agent and still only has to sign a 2 year contract?

One of his best (quickest) paths to an NHL job, with the roster as it's constructed right now, is in Buffalo.

I think we are crazy not to keep
Mitts with Tuch and Skinner. It adds some balance and stability to top 6
Krebs is too good to be a 4th line player.
Greenway is a 4th line player

Tuch/Mitts/Skinner
Tage/Cozens/Quinn
JJ/Krebs/??
Greenway/??/??

- lulags

I agree with this to some extent. Might swap mitts and Tage tbh or flip those lines if Quinn comes into his own next year idk - guess it doesn't really matter. Tage can't really win FO reliably but neither can mitts.

Definitely don't want to watch another year of krebs on the 4th line.

Peterka and Quinn do seem to have developed a bit of chemistry on the ice together but maybe they could use experience with other linemates too.

I realize I've basically said nothing here.

1 year, who cares what the celery is. It won't be that much and they could pay him 10M and it wouldn't affect anything. Hyperbole but you get it.
- TheSabresTaco

How do you figure it won't affect anything - That's 10 mil that could be used on a competent middle 6 rental / go towards fixing Power's partner / veteran goalie rental. ...

Age for ELC's is September 15th of the calendar year, so I believe he's already considered 22.
