Pageau was awful this series - keaner17
He really was. No goals and he was not noticeable at all.

Unless they manage to unload Bailey's contract, we're stuck trotting out a very similar, if not lesser, lineup next year. |

The love affair with vets has really hurt this team.

$6.9m available for next season.
Sorokin has one more year on his contract.
Wahlstrom, Mayfield, Engvall, Bolduc Wotherspoon, Parise & Fasching are all free agents.
We also need to sign a number two goalie.
I have a feeling based on an off the cuff comment from Lou that he didn't plan to resign Engvall. Maybe that changed, but there isn't any room to even replace Mayfield, let alone make improvements |

I don't think they can tweak the roster and compete seriously for a Cup next season. That's why I've been arguing that they might be better off absorbing the pain of Bailey's cap hit one more season, rather than dragging out the pain with a buyout........unless they suddenly need the cap space for a key player.

I like Parise but I'm not sure what he has left? Fasching would be nice as 4RW but Cal has another year. Hickey for GM. He mentioned more speed and skill is needed.

No chance a tweak does it. Islanders are in a real tough spot. Malkin and Ledecky need to make the right decisions and hopefully those decisions have not been already made.

#Isles Mat Barzal: "Sometimes when you're just trying to hold on, it doesn't work well. I think the first two periods we were playing aggressive and the third period we just kind of sat back and clog it up and make it hard. Sometimes when you do that, it can go the other way."
Andrew Gross

Zach Parise sat alone at his locker the whole time the media was in there, staring straight ahead, at his skates. Finally, Kyle Palmieri, after he was done with his interviews, walked across the room and hugged his teammate, touching foreheads
No guarantee Parise, 38, plays again

I'm fine with Parise for another year. $750k got us 21goals. He's still useful. Fasching: I have no idea what he'll command but it could be $2m. Do they cut bait with Wahlstrom? Who knows. They are not in a real good spit going into next year, especially with Dobson no longer looking like a top four guy.

I'd rather see Holmstrom as 3LW for an entire year. Need to find out about some young talent. Dobson really fell off. Hopefully he bounces back.

Right, and when he was asked about signing him he said "We’ll take it one thing at a time, He’s certainly an individual that you’d like to keep in your organization. "
At past trades he has been very definite in saying " we absolutely plan to sign him"
I think Engvall was acquired as insurance in case Barzy didn't make it back. He wasn't a long term acquisition. He'll get $4m. I'm just not sure that money will be there

He'll play here he's told.
Isles have to start cutting bait on these old players. No offense to Zach. |

One final thought...... I love Sorokin, and I recognize the Isles don't even make the playoffs without him........ but somebody needs to work with him on stopping those goals from impossible angles along or even behind the goal line. That's two such goals he allowed in crucial situations in this playoff series. |

Agreed. In the NHL, players are slick and try everything and anything. You have to be ready at all times. The one off his head was a mistake in awareness. Tonight's was a mistake in positioning. If his right skate is one inch further back or, more traditionally, his stick is flat to the shooter..mthat goal doesn't happen.
Tough break for Sorokin, but the team got what they deserved |

I will say this from a 30k foot view of everything:
I'm not ready to say "Fire Lambert". The fact that this tremendously undertalented team lost their best defenseman for an extended period. Their best offensive player for an extended period. One of their more offensively talented young players for the season and yet still managed to get into the playoffs, earns him more time IMO.
I do however believe that I would consider Lamoriello's dismissal, much to the same reasons Botta mentioned. Lou has mortgaged much of the future for a team that went 1-17 on the pp this series. I just don't think this team is properly crafted to seriously challenge next year and the arrow is likely pointing downward |

Have to agree keaner. Lane reminds me of Aaron Boone in a way. I do not think Boone is the best manager, but the Yankees have a very flawed roster for such a high payroll. If Lou has to stay, can he maybe be President and not GM? No idea if Chris will be taking over, but he is I'd rather it be now and Lou just stays President for a year or two. |

Lou probably will be back. Why would he want to come back at this point? I could see if the Islanders were one player away and Lou wanting to try for another Cup. Islanders seem to need a lot of work though.

Now that that's over I gotta say... that is not the same Bo Horvat that played for Vancouver.
I dunno what they did to him but that's a completely different player. |

The Islanders made it a series. They gave us all more games than we probably expected. Now comes the questions of who stays and who goes.
