I’ve had a night to sleep on it and I’m not as angry as I was last night but I still can’t believe the way this team treated that third period. Just…with the guys the Canes had out, the experience we supposedly have, goalie playing the way he was playing…no reason why we shouldn’t be playing game 7 on Sunday. Hell, we should have won this series last night. It’s the playoffs, we probably lose in the next round anyway, but…you never know. Look at Florida. |

Florida has a lot more talent up front and I hope they win that series. Going to be an interesting off-season but looking at the cap space I think we are going to see a similar team next year minus Mayfield Bailey and Engvall and varly. I hope they can improve but it's an aging roster at this point and they don't have a 1st this year or any top prospects. horvat and barzal are going to carry the load with palms and Nelson. Wahlstrom will be back but he's never done anything to make me think he's gonna be an impact player. I guess we will see how it plays out |

Just a waiting game at this point. Still think it was better not to make the Horvat trade and hold onto the #1 and give a look to Raty. The timing was just not right for the trade. It's done now and the challenge will be making things work.

It's not a shock the Islanders lost to the Canes, but it was a very winnable series with the Canes injuries. Lack of offense and PP sunk the Islanders as it usually does.

If they score even one PP goal last night, they win.
I’ll tell ya something, if Horvat doesn’t have a hot start next season, the boo birds will be out. Never good. |

1 for 17 isn't cutting it and they lost this series on special teams, gave up ppgs and a shorty too |

No doubt potvin.
There will be huge pressure on Bo next year. I'm not sure if the Barzal injury hurt the chemistry the two had going? Is Bo playing hurt or is the Islanders system too rigid? Islanders need to find the answers.

Special teams are huge along with the game being about speed and skill. Lou or any GM needs to understand this things. It's not a grinding league like the past. |

This is where the combo of Lee and Horvat had their biggest fail IMO. Both had one garbage time goal a piece but otherwise looked inferior to their opponents. Until last night, the PP couldn't even sustain pressure due to their inability to retrieve and maintain the puck down low. There were several players who were bad in this series, but those two guys were the biggest letdown IMO. |

Lee and Horvat looked really slow this series with no jump at all. Nelson and Pageau were very disappointing as well.

Pageau I thought was good in spots but didn’t carry his strong play down the stretch into the playoffs. I thought our entire defense wasn’t great minus Pulock who was probably the best player for us the entire series imo. Honestly not looking forward to watching the same team next season which is more or less what we’ll have. Maybe this passes but at this point I literally hate Horvat.
That guy was so (frank)ing useless last night and this entire series. My god we have this guy signed for eight more years. |

Pageau is not a big scorer but he brought no offense at all. I thought Pulock was the best player overall. Pelech was not good. I'm not looking forward to seeing mostly the same team. I do not care if they have to play Wally and Holmstrom. That would at least be something different.
I stand by not wanting to make the Bo trade. The timing was just not right and I'd rather hold onto Raty and the #1. Even Beau who can be very frustrating can still skate and he had some nice playoff moments.

Agreed, the entire PP1 was abysmal. But, when does it fall on the staff to change it up. They’d have been better taking the 5 hardest workers and letting them grind the puck down low up to the open man. I believe the PP was 1-18 which is obviously unacceptable. The lone goal was by PP2 yet they refused to change up the system. It wasn’t working and they didn’t adjust. That’s on the staff. When did John McLean become a PP expert? Wasn’t he a third line shut down center for the devils? |

The theme of the isles for decades now is this :
“Is XYZ player the same role on any other cup contending team”
Is Anders Lee a first line player on any other team? Is Pelech a number 1 dman on any other team? After Tavares left, Mat Barzal was the 1C….is Mat Barzal a 1C on a cup contender? |

The PP was bad under multiple coaches. I'm not stating Lane is
a great coach but this is on a lack of talent. Doubt Lane told the players to slow things down on the PP and I doubt he told the team to sit back and let the Canes come at them the entire period and protect a 1-0 lead.
John MacLean scored 413 career goals.

Team was not build well under Garth and Lou has not improved things with the roster in a big way. It's still very much Garth's team. I still like Pelech as a player. I'm thinking his injury effected his play. Barzal I think can be a 1C. He needs more help though. JT was drafted 1st overall.

I didn’t mind moving on from Beau. I’m happy for the kid that he seems to have found his game. Hopefully he keeps it up but I’m not sure that would’ve ever happened with us. The team needed a roster change. I don’t agree with the way it was done but it kind of is what it is at this point. We have zero prospect depth, no first round pick in what looks like the strongest draft since 2003, and a bunch of underperforming veterans most of which are signed for way too much money. That’s the reality of this team’s situation unfortunately.
Maybe Lameriello figures out some way to get younger and faster but I don’t really see how that happens. I also think he may not want to even go that route if the option were there. I know I’m being negative. I don’t care I’ll own that. I hope to be wrong believe me but I don’t really see any way of this team significantly improving for at least a couple of years which sucks when we have a goaltender like Sorokin. He’s a player you win a cup with. |

I’m not referring to execution. It’s pretty obvious that 1-18 is a lack of execution. However it appears that they continued with the same PP as they’re the highest paid guys to do it. They fell on the sword so to speak.
As for Maclean, is he the best PP guy or is he just Lou’s buddy from the Devils. 1-18 would suggest the latter….I don’t care how many career goals he had. |

I think trading the #1 and maybe Raty is the bigger loss.
Lou and the scouting staff need to find players with speed and skill. It's like when Jimmy D left and the Islanders drafted grinding and less talented players. I have to think Lou misses David Conte's drafting from the Devils days. This negative thing is soo funny to me. Islanders have not won a Cup since 1983 and the had a nice run in 1993 and two nice runs a few years ago. Where are all the good times I'm missing?

I’m not sticking up for the coaching staff but what do you really want them to do? Make the fourth line PP1? Our pp has been terrible for years with multiple coaches with pretty much the same cast of players. Our pp sucks because our players are slow and indecisive with the puck. I highly doubt the coaching staff is telling these guys to slow the play down in the offensive zone to give up the puck. Their transition game is a joke and they are too slow to dump the puck in and retrieve it. That couldn’t have been more evident in this series. |

What great PP line choices did Lane have?
I'm sure Lou is fond of MacLean from his Devils days. I cannot speak on his coaching abilities. I just know this PP has struggled under multiple coaches. The thing that has not changed in a big way is the roster. What does that tell us? |
