I'm curious who is moreso stuck in mediocrity... The Jets or the Flames?
Who has a better chance next year if they rolled it back again with the same teams? |

Calgary has a better overall team if they run it back and their defense is far superior to the Jets D, when Markstrom is on his game he's pretty on par with Helle and Calgary has a better backup.
The Flames with a different coach probably have a better season. |

I waited till the media interviews before making a few comments. There are a few takeaways from all those interviews.
1) Not one of the Jets' more veteran players wants to be part of a rebuild.
Comment: I don't really see this as a surprise as winning the Cup is always their number one goal.
2) Jets' players still think that this group is close to where they need to be.
Comment: They might not have a complete grip on reality here but there is also some truth in the statement. They were beaten by a team that basically cheated the cap system by 7-8 M. They lost one of the best Dmen in the league in Mo. No Ehlers for first 4 games, No Scheif for two games. That being said an OT win in game 3 and some puck luck and they would have been up 3-1. So it was closer than it looked so some truth there.
3) They players were upset at Bowness's comments post Game 5.
Comment: Not surprised by this and they were probably right in calling him out on a few of Bowness's words , but at the same time don't seem to take criticism too well themselves.
4) While no one let on much about contract situations it became clear that this might be more of a group decision going forward with Helle and Scheif (and maybe one other.) as they all aligned their contracts together.
Comment: Chevy makes the ultimate call on this one and its a BIG one. I'm pretty sure Dubios doesn't want to be here. I also think Scheifele wants to move on to the Leafs, Sens, or Wings.
The big problem here is that there are absolutely ZERO centers available that are anywhere close to the caliber of these two players. ZERO. Not even Killorn comes close. So it's a HUGE HUGE hit to the roster and would start the snowball effect of veterans wanting out. Compounding the problem is that Chipper can't afford to do a rebuild because in the interim the building will be half-empty and WPG might lose its franchise. The fans right now want to blow it all up but maybe everyone hasn't considered the consequences of doing just that.
The bottom line is that Chevy and Chipman are in a real conundrum here. Maybe we can get Dach for Dubois which partially solves a few things and then see how things go till the trade deadline with Scheifele before making that trade. There is just no way the Jets can replace both of those guys. Helle can also be on hold to the deadline. If they trade him now then the floodgates open .
Thats my long take on things. Lets not also forget that there is the possibility that a healthy Perfetti, a dynamic Brad Lambert, and maybe even a Chad Lucius could really help next year and Chevy could then have serious talks with Scheif and Helle in February about trading or extending. |

There is no way I see the Jets returning with any of Scheifele, PLD or Hellebuyck, and probably not any/many of the pending UFA's or RFA's. Be nice to re-sign Helle but can understand his desire to move to contender.
Helle is welcome back!
So if Hellebuyck indeed wants to go, can see a team like LA as a good trading partner. They have a glut of young centres - Vilardi, Byfield, Kupari, Turcotte, Pinelli, Thomas, Helenus, Hughes, and Anderson-Dolan - and could use an elite goalie. Maybe Helle for Vilardi and one of their youngsters+?
Then you still have PLD and Scheifele to deal for a young goalie and hopefully and up and coming or established d-man (or two). Plus we should get a couple or so of draft choices. But that's a just a starting thought.
Would put a bit of cash on the table that Bones is done as coach of the Jets, if I were a betting man!
But, the inmates cannot continue to run the asylum!

Well yeah Killorn isn't the center that Dubois or Scheifele are cause Killorn isn't a center, he's a winger.
Chevy and Chipman put themselves in this conundrum with their poor roster construction, letting Chevy take endless days off, pandering to Wheeler/Scheifele and taking the fanbase for granted. |

Definitely pass on Hellebuyck. Vegas won the division with 5 goalies. Colorado has won the division 3 times in a row with 3 different goalies. The Jets shouldn't be spending 10 million on a goalie.
Like your idea with LA throw in Ehlers and get Clarke in the deal.
The Jets should go after Swayman for their goalie then. I doubt the Bruins are trading Ullmark, and with the bonuses they have to pay Krejci and Bergeron that get carried over next year they only have 5 million in cap space. Could half price Scheifele do it?

Definitely pass on Helle if he wants $10 million. I wouldn't pay George Vezina (in his prime) $10 million!
One idea I heard was the Russian goalie - spelling? - from Carolina for Scheif as they say Carolina owner is desperate to win now - and wouldn't care if it is only for one year. Want a centre!
Thought of the Clarke add too from LA, but might kill the deal. But good idea! Maybe Scheif, but salary cap problems for LA regardless.
Like to get Guhle from he Hans for PLD - but maybe not possible? Guhle maybe not available? |

Chevy back for next season
- Elliot Friedman announced tonight - jjonah
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm ok with that.
Chevy has kept the Jets competitive in a a small market, and I would wager works as any other GM. Those that say otherwise have no proof. I an sure there is more to do than sit by a phone and make trades.
Some on here were predicting Stanley Cup for the Jets just days ago so obviously those people thought Chevy had brought in the talent necessary for success. Now the same people want to fire him. What changed?
Whose fault is it when the players check out early? The GM's? The coach's? Or the players? No desperation! NIL!
Hell, the Winnipeg Ice could have given the Knights a better battle than 60% of the players that went to Vegas for one last vacation together! Get the cancers out!!!

Jets sure do have a knack for keeping personnel past their expiry date. Claude Noel and Paul Maurice are find examples of this. |

> Buff lost interest, fatigue of the bs
> Eakin said worst room he’s been in
> Laine, by some accounts, bullied out of the room
> Stastny said can’t win if you think like individuals
> Maurice quit, said they need a new voice
> Bowness says “zero push back”
This team needs an exorcism. Complete change

Chevy presser
Bowness is back
Chevy is back
Lost because of 2/3 injuries
That’s it
Gone to the cottage
zinger as Director of Hockey Operations , Executive VP and Asst GM has more job security then a North Korean leader.
Crickets, silence….like he doesn’t exist.

Give you credit for watching that presser. From all the Chevy interviews I have seen over the years, they are typically just full of non-answers and deflections. I have seen so many that I can recite what he’s going to say.
I am going to predict on draft night, he will go to the podium and say: “From the United States National Development Program, the Winnipeg Jets are proud to select…” |

Lol no kidding!
Well there will be 2 or 3 good prospects that have a little aggressiveness to their game so we will see!
Also Chevy has drafted some Russians the last 2 years so we will see if any of them come over.
Maybe resigning Namestikov would help with that? Who knows.

Signing Namestikov to be the 2c next year seems the most logical plan. He likes playing for Bowness. so much so that he waived his no trade to come here. |

Chibrikov reported to be in town this weekend - maybe the start of the new beginning. We certainly need something!
Would love to see us draft a prospect or two from the WHL, but everyone says "take the best prospect available", and hard to argue with that. Not much difference between many of the kids though. |

The team's perpetual mediocrity has been an issue. Since 2011, they have only drafted once in the Top 5. (laine)
Compared to some of the other cup contenders:
EDM - 5 picks (McDavid/Draisaitil/RNH/ Puljujarvi/Yakupov)
COL - 4 picks (MacKinnon/Makar/Landeskog/Byram)
TOR - 3 picks (Matthews/Marner/Rielly)
NJ - 3 picks (J.Hughes/Hischier/Larsson)
CAR - 3 picks (Hanifin/Svechnikov/Lindholm)
FLA - 3 picks (Ekblad/Huberdeau/Barkov)
NYR - 2 picks (Kakko/Lafreniere)
The reasons that these teams have passed us by is obvious.

But that coaching team of PoMo, Kompon and Huddy just beat the Bruins, 😂
But, not arguing with you, they did hold on to that coaching group too long. And look what the coaching change did for Florida?

Uncle Paul always has one great run with a new team. He took Carolina to the finals and he did take the Jets to the conference. Its after that one run he has, when things begin to fall apart. |

Sorry but how is it obvious why these teams have passed the Jets?
Cause the Jets have only had one top 5 pick since relocation?
Edm-Two of those guys are busts but McD is generational, Drai is a beast and RNH is a solid player.
Colo-Great picks yeah but one came from the Duchene trade, Duchene was an early pick himself though.
Tor- Yup those guys are good.
NJ-Larsson was traded for Hall and the only significant piece from their Hall trade is Mercer who NJ drafted 18th overall but I'm not convinced we can say that was cause they drafted Larsson 4th overall.
Car-Svechnikov sure but they traded Lindholm and Hanifin to Calgary and basically have nothing left from that trade yet they're still a very good team.
FLA-Yes those were solid picks and great players.
NYR-They'll likely get better but as of now Kakko and Lafreniere are essentially good 3rd liners and that's it. |

Jets signed their 2021 2nd round pick to his ELC today, Russian winger Nikita Chibrikov, he'll be joining the Moose for the rest of their playoff run.
So that's some interesting news in a time where most Jets news is rather 💩💩. |
