Pretty sure Huddy isn't an assistant in Florida.
- JetFuel

Ya you are correct. I mistook Sylvain Lefebvre for Huddy..... they look similar on a bad tv feed.

For any out there who still doubt that i am a hockey hack, I went 2/8 in first round predictions, got Oilers and Dallas right. so here is my take for round two:

Toronto/Florida - Toronto is a tough one for me because i hate them so much and becuase they are never as good or as bad as the press they get. Part of what i thought would really help Tampa was Jeannot who never really played his game presumably because of the pre-series injury. Florida has a couple of the rare players in the NHL who can agitate at that level in Bennett and Tkachuk and team toughness to back it up. Goalies are a saw off. In the end Florida will get to the net and bang in more pucks than Toronto. Florida in 5.

NJ/Carolina - Both are well coached, balanced, fast teams. The depth loss due to injury tips this to NJ in seven

Seattle/Dallas - Dallas has it all and better top end scoring. Dallas in 4

Edmonton/Vegas - Is anyone really impressed by Vegas beating the Jets? Edmonton had more adversity in the first round and is more ready to battle. Brossoit vs Skinner is a saw-off, Vegas has better defense (so did LA), Edmonton has better top end forwards. The clincher is special teams - Vegas PP sucks, Edmonton is writing the book. Edmonton in six games.

Always interesting to read what others are predicting. I "believe" I was 4/8 in first round, basically my high school mark - 50%.

Anyways, looking at round 2:

Toronto-Florida: Leafs in five - Leafs should score early and often

Carolina-New Jersey: Same as you, Jersey in 7, Jersey more snipers, Hughes!

Dallas-Seattle: The Stars in six - Robertson, Hintz, Hiskanen, Ottinger - need I say more (said the Avs in four last time)

Eedmonton-Vegas - Oilers in six! The Oilers players will come to play, meet Mr McDavid and Mr Draisaitl!

There - four sure winners! Could I be wrong, again?

Am listening to Jets at Noon on CJOB, Jim Toth is a clueless idiot... lol.. Talks like he knows everything but he doesn't have a clue.

They had Ken Weibe on at the beginning of the show, Weibe seems to think Hellebuyck is looking for a 9 to 10 million AAV on his next contract, personally I'd never do that if I was Chevy if that is what Helle is actually wanting.

I'm not paying any goalie 9-10 million when you're approaching 30 years old. I think I'm shopping him for the best return, perhaps a team that has a top prospect goalie could be part of the return? Maybe like a Sebastian Cossa in Det?

I was looking through the Jets/Thrashers GM history during the game last night. This franchise has had 3 GM’s in total and its crazy to think that the GM that only served one year in Rick Dudley made 3 (yes count them 3 significant moves) bringing in Wheeler, Ladd and Byfuglien. He has also been one of the main architects behind the Carolina Hurricanes. We are lucky if Chevelall12yearsoff makes one significant move every 4 - 5 years.

It’s time to #FIRECHEVY.

We technically should be looking back at our Thrashers history and be trying to bring in Dudley.

- TheUltimateJet

New GM's tend to dip their toes in the water, making minor adjustments until they see what they are working with. For that reason, this would be the worst time to make a GM change. The amount of tradable vets in their final year has the Jets poised to make some serious changes. Won't be surprised if at least 2 of Scheifs/Wheeler/Helle are dealt this offseason. A new GM would likely keep things status quo. My 2 pennies, but Maurice quite, and clearly Wheeler doesn't get it. Chirping Bowness after a terrible effort didn't help. Chevy has a very tough job recruiting in WPG, and I honestly am impressed with most of his moves, drafting, and contracts.

Helle won't be approaching 30, he'll be 31 when he signs his next contract.
Goalies can tend to age well but I wouldn’t take the risk that Helle does, would look to trade him for the best possible return whether theres a goalie prospect coming back or not.
Not sure about Cossa as he's spent some time in the ECHL this season, not sure if Detroit would trade him anyway or if they're looking to make a big swing for a tender like Bucky but who knows.

I'm really in the camp that the Jets need to start moving towards getting younger and the next version of this team so I'd be looking for picks and prospects though it doesn't sound like management wants to go that route.

Just thinking out loud here.....If we are shipping off assets for a retool, maybe a guy like Ryan O'Reilly would be a good fit as a placeholder at center. I'm sure we'd have to overpay a bit, which I'd be ok with if we could keep the term moderate. I know there aren't alot of centers that are UFA this upcoming offseason, but he's a good one.

Definitely pass on Hellebuyck. Vegas won the division with 5 goalies. Colorado has won the division 3 times in a row with 3 different goalies. The Jets shouldn't be spending 10 million on a goalie.

Like your idea with LA throw in Ehlers and get Clarke in the deal.

The Jets should go after Swayman for their goalie then. I doubt the Bruins are trading Ullmark, and with the bonuses they have to pay Krejci and Bergeron that get carried over next year they only have 5 million in cap space. Could half price Scheifele do it?

- BWJumper

I to am linking Shief to Boston, Krejci and Bergeron are likely both retiring leaving a huge hole at center for team still competing. yes, Swayman or Ulmark plus Fredrick fro Shief!!!! we do not retain any money, not needed.

or as Jetsnation pointed out, shief to either ottawa or Detroit, if he is extending with them then we have to stick to our guns and get Norris or Kasper. but i really like the idea of getting one of Boston's goalies!!

this also always us to trade Helle to LA who is loaded with talent. i would fight for Byfield straight up!!!! or Vilardi and Brandt. yes both!! Helle would have a bidding war

dont count out the Rangers for PLD. He absolutely would extend there. if we could get Laf or Chytil and Schneider, sign me up

I do not see a long rebuild here at all!!! Shief and PLD can be replaced with some assets coming back plus Perfetti, Lucious and Lambert all have top 6 center potential.

biggest need would be the Helle replacement and that might be in Boston. very happy to see Dom have such a great year in the OHL as well

sorry another team I'm calling is Anaheim, cant tell me Shief or PLD wouldn't re-sign there. they have a lot of great prospects including 3 potential stud D id have interest in!!!!

and can we please all remember the most important thing, we have not been a good team for a long Time with these players, the sky isnt falling if we move any of them!!! any of them!!!

Veteran teams that have good years, but fall short, tend to believe they need that one more player.

LA needs a goalie - that's why I believe that they will be heavy duty in the market for Helle, and they have a glut of C's they could send back. That's why I am all in on this Villardi and Brandt Clarke, or Byfield - for Helle.

NYR probably feel they need a 2nd line C - hello, M. Scheifele. Maybe Schneider and Chytil coming back?

Now that we have dealt Helle in our dreams, Carolina needs a C and they have a very good young goalie in Kochetkov - and we need a goalie. Great fit!

So we trade Helle, Scheif and PLD - and get back something like - Byfield (or Vilardi), Chytil, Clarke, Schneider and Kochetkov. I'm thinking plus a draft choice or two.

Great start to our re-tool - now find a home for Wheeler! Wheeler, Scheifele, PLD and Helle need to go. Wheeler and Helle have been great soldiers.

I’m liking these suggestions! I was thinking 55 to Boston would make sense with their upcoming holes down the middle, but couldn’t think of a return. But one of those 2 goalies would be a great start. I think Bos. Would likely part with Ullmark first and that’s fine by me.

No one talks about the RFA market. How about making an offer sheet on a few RFA's if the situation becomes more desperate? Cap dump Wheeler for starters and suddenly any of these guys are affordable.

Zegras, Vilardi, B. Byram , Pegger....Cody Glass , Jesper Bratt, Debrincat , Brannstrom, Svechnikov, even Timo Meier

Whether any would sign in WPG is another story but I bet Cody Glass would and he would be a great add.

I'd also just about trade anyone to get Dawson Mercer off the Devils.....but I doubt the Devils would ever want to lose that budding superstar. Just dreaming on that name.

Yes, some interesting names, as you say. And like you say, it's another story if any RFA would sign here to start with. Maybe to up their ante with their present team?

But certainly guys like Byram and Vilardi are interesting names as sign and trade, aren't they? Doubt the Preds would let Glass slip away, especially to divisional rival.

Timo Meier was pointless for NJ in the first round series against the Rangers, he was also -3 and had 20 penalty minutes.

Many here thought we should make a big trade for him at the deadline.

I was one of those who wanted Meier. No, neither Lafreniere or Meier panned out so far (in Meier's case and he's currently injured.)

Still I think they are pretty decent hockey players and would welcome both on the Jets current roster going forward.

One series does not make/or break a player. Now if this continues....different story.

Cody Glass has had 1 ok’ish year in 6 years of pro hockey.
14 goals

Now if you can get him for $850-$950k a year worth a gamble compared to at least 4 of our current forwards

Chances are he’s peaked

It took Chevy 4 season to make his first BIG move trading Evander Kane. He has made perhaps 4 BIG moves overall. 1. Trading Kane, 2. Trading for Stastny, 3. Trading Trouba, and 4. Trading Laine. Please let me know if I missed one.

So on average he makes 1 BIG move every 3 years. And, you are expecting him to make 3-4 of these this offseason? I don’t see it happening.

He may have done better for the Jets in the playoffs as we really lacked firepower and skill to complete with Vegas.

Exactly! Well said. In another post, you mentioned to trade them all and I think the whole top 6 including Ehlers, (sans Connor and Perfetti) should be on the table for picks, prospects, solid up and comers and refresh 2.0 Jets.
