Granato didn’t fix the conviction lever until game 83, next year tho… - washedup20
Think it was more Adams didn't fix the goaltending or help his Defense when they needed it!! |

Some good stuff over there:
“Last year Florida scored its way a great regular season. They got torched in the playoffs. Their top scorer wanted $11m in a new contract. So they sent him to Calgary in a deal for Tkachuck.
Panthers struggled almost this entire season and several times looked like they might miss the playoffs. But, they got hot coming down the stretch and have remained on fire for the playoffs.
When it comes to the playoffs you still need high end skill and scoring. But the Panthers learned you also need high end grit on your top lines.”
Elite talent over grit, read this:
“People won't like to hear it, a lot will be in denial about it because we all know what an elite talent Marner is... But there's a history of Nylander at least showing up when Marner goes limp.
No one on this team disappears like Marner when the pressure hits its peak, you can bank on it every time. Matthews hasn't been at his peak but he's shown up, he scored the big game 6 goal, he had two the game before. JT had the overtime winner.
Where the (frank) has Marner been through all of this? Just like every other year, he's there and then he's not.” |

some people aren't going to like this response that much, and that's ok.
Entering the season, Adams has continually kept his message clear and concise. He was still trying to discover who belonged here for the long term and who had to go. In different words he admitted as such in a recent interview. He wanted his team to compete but also develop considering how young they are.
They have many more answers now than from back in October. But now instead of just hoping they can compete and hoping that they have a real team here, they believe it and they know it. They can take the time to add an impact defenseman. They can hopefully find a deal that makes sense to add to Levi but I'm less hopeful on that.
He won't throw anyone under the bus (Joker) but he recognizes the need to add to the defense. I respect that he went hard at Chiquorin. That says to me that he won't give up the search. But does one defenseman truly turn this team around? No. But what he can do is provide enough confidence, especially during injuries, to get these guys to play better when UPL inevitably sucks, get us to win those few extra games to make the post season.
The biggest thing next year is development of the very young core of guys again. That's inevitably what gets us in. But it would be super (frank)in helpful to get that extra quality dman and a halfway decent 1B goalie.

I've never seen a fanbase get so high and so low on a singular player over the course of one season, ever like they do to both Nylander and Marner.

The bottom 6 could and should be reformed to make sure all 4 lines can cause real damage. |

Good posts,
The Sabres really need:
5 forwards
4 defensemen
1A Goalie
Adams should get rid of:
Girgs
Okposo
Olofsson
Hino
Joker
Bryson
Comrie
Granato needs to make sure the players play the full 82 like they have the end of the last 2 seasons. Does conviction bring:
- consistency
- confidence
- grit
??? IMO even if Adams makes substantial moves, the team is still a few key injuries away from a lottery team. |

Good Post!! My only counter to this is the Goaltending and Defense have been a known weak spot since he got here. |

If you are completely remaking the bottom 6, aren't there really only 3 openings in the bottom 6, with Mittelstadt, Krebs and Greenway on the roster?
Reforming is a fine word to use, but it depends on who they target.
Bringing in a player like Compher and/or Bertuzzi would be an indication of what they value, but I can't see them spending the necessary dollars on players like that. |

Did GMTM build the best Sabres roster for playoffs?, even though the organization was a total failure.
Stanley cup winners from that roster:
Bogo
O’rielly
Rodrigues
Gionta
Impactful playoff players:
Kane
Rhino
Foligno
McCabe
Carrier
Eichel
The rest of the roster was a mess, what a waste of a decade. |

I certainly agree. The defense has been reformed with young developing guys. I think you've got a good body there that needs more rounding out. It's been a disaster for years and finally it's feasible to fix.
Goaltending, yeah. You could argue they should have tried to make a trade or sign a guy. But what real guy was signing here two years ago? And what team is trading a 'real guy' away? (frank) maybe Boston. But it's rare I think. For the first time in a long time, I think the Sabres may be back on the map. Few more years and we'll be cutting Bills-esq contracts to complimentary guys.

We gotta stop with this. I am confident as ever that we are going to be really good soon but we have to stop pretending we play in a different league than everyone else. It's the NHL. You didn't have a viable goalie. Figure it out.
Georgiev was 7th in the regular season in GSVAA. Was traded for a 3rd and 5th I think |
